@alenth So basically, just as the devs played up the historically ambiguous nobility of the Western Allies, they also played up the historically ambiguous brutality of the Eastern Front. Sounds to me like everybody is getting up in arms over a piece of historical fiction. It's a game people, and while some of the facts portrayed in the game may not have been common occurrences, they did actually happen and they are used here for sensational dramatic effect, nothing more. Getting upset about this is like complaining that Inglourious Basterds wasn't a historically accurate portrayal of an army unit that didn't actually exist.
Riccitello says there are too many opportunists in gaming? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Like he was interested in anything other than filling the shareholders pockets during his time at EA...
@Deadly_Nemesis Not entirely true, at least in the case of Sony. There are several games that have free DLC available for them through the PSN store. Granted, it's mostly multiplayer maps and the like, but the fact is, there is precedent for releasing free DLC on Sony's consoles.
@evil13killer I think "most" might be pushing it a bit. "Some" certainly, but I wouldn't even say a majority of PC gamers pirate regularly. If that were the case, services like Steam, GOG, and the like would not be the successes they are today.
@Evanduil Considering they have only ever had one game available on a console (The Witcher 2) and there has been no DLC released for that game on consoles, paid or otherwise, I don't think we can fault them for only releasing free DLC on PC. Wait to see if they charge for DLC on the next game they release on consoles, then we can complain.
@damiger Sony's Playstation division has clearly realized that the world of entertainment media was changed by the internet and unlike companies in other types of media, such as the music industry, they are embracing it. Gone are the days when the only way to effectively get your game to market is through a massive publisher, you can now do that from your home in your pajamas. If Sony didn't get on that bandwagon, they would have lost out on a ton of revenue, so for them it was simply a smart business decision.
@northArrow They don't make any money off the console, or at least nothing significant, which is why you only ever see console companies talk about units sold, not dollars made. They sell the consoles at a loss to get as many as they can out to the market and then make the money back by selling games.
