@Devils-DIVISION Funny thing is, if there's any "feedbackula" or anything alike on this entry, it will show all the comments against the author as dumb, bigoted and sexist, when the 90% of the comments against the author simply state that diversity for the sake of diversity is pointless, and like in your case, are well explained arguments.
Anyway after all this I'm started to be confused... I am a white non-muscled man. Should I demmand VGs to have a smaller quota of muscled main characters? Well... should I demmand TV, movies and music videos to stop portraying muscled people? Please, you're setting the bar too high for those who cant waste hours away in the gym like apes. You know I'm not fat at all, but I can't spend my days working for that 6-pack, neither I want to, but I'd like to see some diversity as well. I mean, seriously, muscled people everywhere, even movie characters that wouldn't need to be muscled are muscled!!
I loved the feel of The Witcher series, but the UI really took me away from enjoying the game experience. I hope CDprojekt do a good job making the UI an aid, and not an obstacle, to enjoy the game.
@whitetiger3521 That must be one of the most potential-wasted devices that Nintendo has released. Apps are a joke, and most of the best games can't be played thanks to the region lock and the lack of distribution. Sad but true...
On a side note, I wanted to remind everyone here that there's a huge indie gaming scene with great stories led by great characters that don't have to fit in the AAA-please-eveyone main role. There's all kinds of games, from plain mindless fun to deep artistic storytelling experiences.
Just like in any other industry, the big companies will only react to the smell of profit. Want AAA games with diverse main characters? Ok, keep demmanding it, make a lot of noise and they'll include it. They'll include ANYTHING if it puts the game in the top of the selling charts... but the whole point of bringing more diversity to games will be lost, twisted and distorted in favor of a profit-making view. I wouldn't want that, being as I am in favor of more diversity. Do you want your cause sponsored by the big companies? you may as well throw it to the garbage, because it will end up being shaped to meet the market expectations, taking it away from its main point.
So as I said earlier, there's a huge universe of great independent games. Support these devs, and surely they'll start making bigger projects, putting their fresh (and surely more rich and diverse) ideas into games. I see it as a much more reliable way to achieve diversity than leaving it in the hands of the big companies. But of course, this is a long term solution. Aint nobody got time for that, right?
Maybe the author should consider things like this before throwing in more bigotry and hate with articles like this one. These articles are just defensive walls to protect your own view and opinion, but you don't really bring anything useful into the mix, quite the opposite.
@COMMANDOBLACK 1st world problems.... if you could only have 1 console and buy 1 videogame every 6 months or more I can tell how much would you care about these things. Game developers and story writers should put their 100% on making a good game, fun to play, and with a solid story if needed. That's that. If they have to focus mainly on not hurting the feelings of anyone, respect everyone's wishes of how a game should be, what should it portrait, what themes are good/what not, what amount of blood/violence is acceptable, how to fill the quota of "non-white-male" characters, etcetc.... we'll have shallow clone-like games with nothing to offer. Somehow is what's happening with AAA games nowadays. No risks taken, treating the players as if we were plain retarded, just a mashup of elements that will make the game sell by making it totally aseptic and unoffensive. Would it be better if these games were led by [put here whatever gender/race/sex/religion] characters? I don't think so.
@Smokescreened84 I've read mostly all the comments and I've seen pretty much of everything, from reasoned arguments to utter nonsense, defending (or attacking) both sides. Please don't try to distort reality by picturing everyone who doesn't agree with the article author as cavemen.
