@Gelugon_baat @malfestus But over time cumulative user scores benefit from central tendency and become a better gauge than a handful of commercial reviews done at the height of the hype and under deadline pressure.
Don't be too hard on Cam. He probably didn't know all the baggage on this topic or he'd never have picked at the scab as he did. With over 1400 lucid and informed comments I think we've remedied that!
@Iddhi @loafofgame @jawslover They even changed the picture of the GTA panel to GTA5 in the semifinals to try and push GTA for the win. It may not have started as a GTA5 promo but they sure wanted it to end that way!
I doubt many people actually think reviewers get paid directly. But it's odd you didn't mention the 800 pound gorilla in the studio. Major publishers pay Gamespot and other reviewers for ad space. Your organization cannot survive without that revenue. That is de facto paid reviewing. There is an ever-widening score differential between user and journalist reviews on AAA titles. Why?!
About that boxart/touching comment. I saved every box, insert, instruction manual, jewel case, and promo card from every pc game I played back in the '90s thinking I'd make a bundle on Ebay in 20 years when people began to look back nostalgically at their youth. I thought wrong. The shipping would cost more than their worth!
Digital downloads are great but like "the_hunger" said, we need some competition to Steam or these great sales are going to be nothing but a fond memory. GOG (Good Old Games). Check it out.
This is embarrassing. Here on the XBOX ONE production line we noticed some of the source code going sentient. We thought we caught most of this but it looks like a few units escaped. You know you have a bad one if the unit shows god-like tendencies or displays a flagrant disregard for people with foreign accents. They also have been known to switch owner's tv's to University of Washington games unexpectedly.
Simply return it to the Redmond address and we'll have it fixed and back to you in 5 to 7 weeks. We are truly sorry for this inconvenience.
@zzgamerzz @cratecruncher You missed my point. I'm not a socialist railing against Microsoft. Free market capitalism means companies compete fairly for your business. But when industries consolidate to a few players they can move in lockstep to create no differentiation among their offerings. What if Sony had offered the PS4 for $499? What could you have done? Sony would have made $100m more the first day if they had matched the XB1 price. They looked better than M$ but they screwed up by not playing the game. They will cooperate next time.
My internet was $35 about 5 years ago. Now it's close to $80 because ATT and TWC match each others price increases. They are so professional it makes me sick. Professional, pffft.
