Hey, i just have a quick question I was hoping you could help me with.

I'm a pretty big Warcraft III fan since the summer, and I'm thinking of buying WoW. Thing is, I'm worried I wont be able to really get into it because it's an older game, and there is already a huge amount of people playing it. Basically, I'm asking if WoW is a very newb friendly game or not. Is it worth it for me to buy the game and Expo, or will I be lost, way behind, laughed at, and essentially wasting money?

Any opinions will be helpful, good or bad. I'm just looking for some honest feedback. And, since we're here, does any race do Cla'ss better or worse than the next one? For example, will a Dwarf be any better or worse as a Warrior then a Night Elf? Just wondering.

Thanks very much for your help.matt_25568

Right now it is extra noob friendly so it's probably the best time to start playing.

There were some quirks prior to this, but one of the last patches basically eliminated these. When you have a gathering quest, you dont even really need to make an effort now as the items you need to pick up sparkle on the ground.

Gear is relatively easy to get if you PVP, you don't even really need to win all that much unless you want the absolute highest tier of arena gear.

I find PVP and PVE both very satisfying most of the time in WoW, end game PvE encounters especially are a lot of fun.

It's a very social game though, so the more people there are the better the game actually is. You definitely wont be lost though, it's a very easy game to play, but can be somewhat difficult to master.

edit-spelling.

[QUOTE="bvofan"]The Eldrs Scroll series has always defined the RPG genre for me. Oblivion, the last game in the series, was a masterpiece. it had hundreds of hours of gameplay, and remained challenging, yet never became imposseble. the thing i feel it misses is online gameplay. there is a rumor that the next game in the series will allow co-op, and be mmo. can anybody confirm this? Ironfungus

The Elder Scrolls is a western RPG. It will never be an "RPG".

I got very bored with Elder Scrolls IV when I found out how limited the world was. I want the world to be much larger.

edit: I also want the characters to actually look natural. They look absolutely retarded beyond all hell in Oblivion.

Okay, so the first line of your reply you've said it is a western RPG, but it will never be an RPG? Er... Last time i checked an RPG was an RPG no matter what side of the world it was made on.

And as for it not being an RPG.... You must have a pretty narrow definition for them.

I personally liked Morrowind more than Oblivion. It seemed more epic to me for some reason. There were alot more different ways to tackle situations, and the game was just bigger as a whole. Obviously Oblivion couldn't pack quite as much land in there, but once you've seen the towns in Oblivion, that's pretty much it.. There's slight differences, but nowhere near the variety of Morrowind.

Morrowind with Oblivion graphics would be uber.

I'd go with Diablo 2 personally, I spent more time with that than any of the others.

Blizzard really know how to make entertaining games though, all of them are top notch.

Nah, that's Call of Jaurez :)

GUN you just play as one dude, but it's *kind of* like GTA in that the town is open and you can get missions from different people, or different things like mail delivery, Dead or Alive bounties, etc..

GUN was pretty cool.

The Call of Jaurez demo ran so poorly I never bought the game.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a Far Cry or GTA stile Western.

I AM DOC HOLIDAY.

I didn't mind GUN either, unfortunately it doesn't support high resolutions though, so it looked awful on my 24" widescreen.. Gameplay wise it was pretty cool though.

[QUOTE="MadExponent"]I pretty much hated The Witcher. An enhanced edition can't make a bad game good. For those of you who enjoyed it I would like to know what you liked about it cause it was so incredibly bland when I played it I was actually in shock to see how well it sold.MadExponent

The Witcher, Bland? That's funny coming from someone playing Guild Wars.

Well Guild Wars was easy to get into and addictive. The Witcher was something I couldn't even get into. It was almost like I had been whisked away back to the year 2000 and I was playing a bad RPG or something.

If only games in 2000 played and looked like Witcher.

I haven't heard anyone really besides you say that it is quite THAT bad. I loved it personally.

Like others have said though, it really is a subjective form of entertainment, so you're entitled to your opinion. If you think it's a bad RPG you can't have played many good ones though.

[QUOTE="TryDaBeardON"][QUOTE="GodLovesDead"][QUOTE="TryDaBeardON"][QUOTE="GodLovesDead"][QUOTE="mfsa"]

The Germans know why. They have a word for it. The word is Schadenfreude. Satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune.

GodLovesDead

I used to cheat in multiplayer games, and that's why. Nothing is more enjoyable then ruining other people's time. It's even better when you can get away with it, with them not knowing. I'd probably still hack if they didn't make the punishment equivelent to taking away your game.

Why is that, though? How do you get a kick out of a bunch of people you don't know literally despising you? I mean, even if you don't believe in good and bad energies and all that, even then it sounds completely retarded to me.

And neither VAC nor PB "eliminate" hacks as someone said here. And 40 and 2 as a sniper on IO map is not necessarily a hack. A hack is when someone gets 70 kills shooting a pkm from his hip.

Because it's hilarious. I've probably never had more laughs. A lot of people here are simply ignorant. They think "wow they suck so they have to hack" or whatever. It's not true. Hacks or not, I could probably beat everyone here in Counter-Strike blind-folded. I get acccused if I hack or not. Don't really care. I think it's rooted in having an advantage that no one else has, and they don't know you have it. That's the fun part about it. I get better scores when I don't hack simply because I'd rather not get caught.

Pretty sad stuff really. I mean, if I said and meant it that I "never in my life had more laughs" than while using a hack in an online game, I'd probably be pretty upset with myself a little later after I had a chance to think it over. I'd probably end up blaming my parents or education system or maybe TV. But seeing how you follow that up with "I could probably beat everyone *blindfolded*," which makes ZERO sense whatever way you look at it, I'm guessing that either you don't mean things you say, or you don't think about what you say a whole lot.

Whatever the case may be, I'm not one of those who think "wow they suck so they have to hack." Although I'm sure some of those who use scripts get them because of frustration caused by their gaming inaptitude. But most are, in my opinion, decent players, afflicted by some sort of psychological disorder. Hopefully, it'll go away for most over the years.

What's really sad is thinking you're holier-than-thou just because you're in disagreement about something you haven't even tried. Obviously my skill is an exaggeration (and if you don't know what that is, maybe you shouldn't be talking to other people but instead should be studying semantics). It's grossly obvious you and the OP are highly offended by cheaters, and you both fell right into the trap. "Hack clans" such as myg0t and the such don't hack to seem good. They do it to piss you off. It's just a game. There's hundreds (or thousands) of servers for you to choose from. Just switch. I'm not going to say cheating is a good thing. It's definitely not. But it's a lot of fun if you actually do it.

Why would he try it? Most people have a shred of deceny and don't go out of their way to wreck other people's online experience.

I'll tell you what I hate. People who actually have the nerve to come on these forums and cry about something that is designed to be in the game. I mean come on, get a life. It's called tactics. I mean what do you think real soilders do in the battlefield when they are attacked by snipers? Oh gee Mr. Sniper guy could you do us a favor and not camp with sniper rifles. It's that most of us are a bunch of noobs and we suck at that too. Just give us a chance. Oh btw could you also stop using machine guns and stick with hand guns. Go back to playing Barbie and Sonic.Ironhorse001

Games aren't real life.

And you don't need to insult people to get your point across, otherwise you just look arrogant. This is a public forum, people can write whatever they like. If you don't like it, don't read it. Baseless insults are never a good way to have a positive discussion.

I agree though, camping is a valid tactic, especially for snipers. Spawn camping on the other hand is just annoying.
