Theoretically, yes. Typically when new I build a new computer using old hard drives, I back everything up and reformat to prevent any issues with programs thinking you have a different processor or anything like that. It will be less likely to have problems that way.

You also need to keep in mind whether or not your new computer supports your old hard drive. Which is basically just what kind of cable and interface it uses (SATA, PATA, IDE, etc.) Most new motherboards don't have IDE hard drive ports on them anymore.

I'm more disgusted at Activision...they seem to be making tens of spinoffs of Guitar Hero, and are having Call of Duty 5 be done by Treyarch again.

Anything on Future of the Left - Curses, the first half of Minus The Bear - Planet of Ice, the Soulwax remix of Justice - Phantom Pt. II...and the sound of Chigurh's silenced shotgun. Seriously. That movie was awesome.

I'm in a stoner/post-rock/psychedelic phase. Or anything that is awesome.

[QUOTE="crucifine"]I don't listen to nearly as much anymore (I still do, just a lot less of it), because it gets repetitive. Even the uber-technical stuff like Spawn of Possession, Nile, Necrophagist, etc. So now I only listen to death metal (or grindcore, for that matter) with really strong composition and melody, because most bands do one and not the other.LoG-Sacrament

any recommendations? or were you implying that SoP, Nile, and necrophagist have those qualities?

Those three have better than average composition and lower than average melody, though neither have what I would call good or bad composition and melody. I'm sure you've seen me talk about a few of these before, but here goes:
Augury - excellent composition and melody, and just in general one of the best bands I've ever heard. The opera vocals tend to put some people off, but most people love it.
Cynic - these guys are as proggy as it gets when it comes to death metal, but that's what I like. Every note was thought out before being put on record, and it shows. All the musicians involved are extremely talented, and Sean Malone now teaches Music at a college in Florida.
!T.O.O.H.! - probably the best grindcore album I've ever listened to in my life came from these guys (Rad A Trest). You get caught up in the frenetic, paranoic energy of it all, and then they slap you with some of the beautiful riffs you'll ever hear from a grindcore band.
Genghis Tron - a 'cybergrind' band, they mix electronica and grindcore like no other. Perhaps not as strong composition as the first two, but good stuff nonetheless.
Lykathea Aflame - the most 'deathy' of what I have here, words fail me when I try to describe why their lone album, Elvenefris, is so awesome.

Non-death/grindcore:
Turisas: The only power metal band I'll admit to liking, because they're actually about power, and not about flashy guitar solos and falsetto vocals. The Varangian Way is hands down the second most epic album I've ever heard, preceded by:
Windir - 1184. Accordions, check. Vocals screamed in an all-but-forgotten Norwegian tongue, check. Lead singer died while walking to his parents in a blizzard, check. It's an album about a naval viking battle that occured in 1184 that involved one leader tying the ships together to....well, read Wikipedia for history. This record puts you there.

Anyways, most of the other stuff I listen to is stoner metal, sludge metal, post-rock, psychedelic, prog, or Dethklok.

You can do this ^^^, but keep in mind that Java is somewhat slower than C# and significantly slower than C++. So don't expect to be able to create anything much above the level of Quake 3 (and even then, only if you've learned the ins and outs of Java first).

This is a great site..teh_goonster

There are tons of good sites out there, but this is a really good one.

Also, if you can prove you're a student, Microsoft is giving away Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition for free (I think the URL is something like www.dreamspark.com).

First, pick up a C++ book (Walter Savitch's Problem Solving with C++ is pretty much standard for college classes), and go on from there. If you're moving into game programming, find a book or two on either OpenGL or DirectX programming, as this will help you understand graphics programming much more than a regular C++ book.

Although I'm not entirely sure what it is that you're asking, Visual Basic is easier than C#, yes. C# is basically C++ without having to code all the device interaction and slightly different syntax. It's easier than C++ but also a bit slower.
