@ThePope2k6 This is still Linux. It's silly to assume people don't do real world work on Linux.
"Sure, it can be installed on a console-like, living room device, but who's to say that device will be the appropriate specs to run games on my TV with any reliable framerate."
This is Valve, they're not going to be stupid enough to come out with a device that can't play at a console level. And what's more you can make sure yourself by building a PC better than the XBONE or the PS4.
"This will be an interesting diversion from Valve, but it will be gone within 5 years unless they own the hardware platform as well as the OS. "
@Daian @Saidrex Most of what Win7 can do that Linux can't is just compatability with specific programs, most of which have Linux counter parts that are just as good and free for the most part.
@Daian @cshourihan Well I imagine it'll be optimized for slightly better game performace but other than that, I don't really know. That said, there isn't a whole lot you can say if you reversed that question too, as long as you know how to use WINE 9a windows emulator) in Linux.
@Cloud_imperium @cshourihan @ilagas88 I'd say they're more profitable. Look at any simultaneous release on all platforms and the PC number is always lower.
@Darth_Aloysius @cshourihan The physical part is gonna be announced on the 25th, but you can put steam OS on any computer you want. The steambox will be sold with it pre installed.
