@nousername66 Yeah...gotta disagree with you on that one. Consoles are for gamers who enjoy socializing and/or don't want to spend the dough on the gaming PC. FPS is obviously better on console, but RTS is obviously better on PC. I consider both to be gamers.
@Ayebang As an American...I am truly embarrassed. I feel the need to apologize on your behalf. World, MOST Americans don't believe that they're any more intellectually gifted than any other country. What we have comes from a wealth of natural resources from an only recently tapped land, and a great amount of luck, nothing more. American ingenuity does not exist, not truly, as our Founding Fathers were, at least in my own opinion, British.
Bill Gates donates to charity. So did Jobs. So does anyone large enough to be in the public spotlight, including Sony's CEO. That's just tact. It doesn't actually say anything about the company at all.
If anything, emphasize the loss of good intent between countries in the world today. The world economy is struggling because, to be frank, people hate Americans because of a reputation we get from comments like this. It's plainly inaccurate; every country has its educated and its uneducated. Only the latter feels the need to brag about the achievements of the former.
As an American in a Capitalist economy, one might pose this question to you: We are all alone in this economy. This is survival of the fittest applied to money, where those who work hard are rewarded for their efforts, and those who don't or can't, do not rise. Therefore, as an American, I am not on your "team," not where economy is concerned. What have you done personally to allow you to become the spokesperson of this nation?
Can't say this sounds like a confident statement from Microsoft. It's like a hurt schoolboy saying "Well I know how to use it!" in the locker room when he finds he doesn't measure up to the rest of the jocks.
Bummer, Microsoft. Yes, games matter. Yes, specs matter. Your mission is to nail both, not just one.
While I adore pessimism...and I really, truly do...is it not quite possible, even probable, that rating games lower than other critics for the hell of it might not be entirely accurate?
It especially makes you look bad when you give particular wealthy developers with mega blockbusters 10's. Tom, your review was too brief. You pointed out bugs and emotion, but no musical score, no storyline, some very minor comments on gameplay, no comments on graphics...come on man, you're better than that.
I don't blame Tom for the recent flurry of inaccurate reviews from Gamespot. I blame the group, as a mob, and what they "attempt" to accomplish when they review games. If you truly want to be unbiased, and if you won't take this from a fan...take it from a degree in English and Journalism, we'd need more pros than cons in the video to even remotely justify an 8.
Yeah...I agree with the many people below me. This is very simple.
If they have this sort of DRM, I will not purchase their products, so long as there are other games without these restrictions.
So my staement to these companies is this: I not only dare you to block used games...I DOUBLE DOG dare you. I'd really like to see how fast you can all lose your money, so I can sell all my stocks. ^^
It's a game that is considered unique because of its close attention to unit tactics. On the one hand, skilled RTS fans will love the depth, but on the other hand, casual gamers will hate the micro-management.
Total War has always appealed to me because it offers a political take.
But overall, I'd say Company of Heroes is definitely among the best.
Perhaps if you two met on an equal ground, you'd realize that you'd probably agree with the end result of both of your arguments? Politics always gets in the way.
The greatest leader in American history was once asked: "So, are you a Republican or a Democrat?" To which General George Washington responded; "I am neither. Such parties will only forget the good of the nation in the grand scheme of things."
America was founded on the independent. It was first led by an Independent. You pick your beliefs, no matter the party that heralds them.
I like plants. I believe we're chopping down too many.
I also like guns. I believe that it's our right to bear them.
It really doesn't need to be so difficult, people.
While an interesting proposal, you'd need to test subjects both before and after. And that particular mission forces you to commit atrocity. For most gamers who experienced it, it was horrific. I'm sure that the clips you're speaking of are even more horrific.
But you simply can't blame simulations. Following your philosophy, we should ban flight simulators because they can possibly train terrorists. But, of course, the mass majority use for this is teaching our own pilots how to fly. This is exactly like the video game industry. The vast majority of us commit that atrocity in MW2, and move on with our lives. Sure, there's a few rotten apples, but let's face it, they were rotten to begin with.
If you were going to say that violent games can psychologically prepare you for combat situations, however, I'd agree with you. This is why the United States recruits from and endorses gaming. But look at it this way, our generation has played COD and Battlefield a bit much, making our crimes more catastrophic, as criminals have likely played as well.
If we were ever to go to war, experience an enormous disaster, have a zombie apocolypse...whatever, you'd have a far more organized, mentally prepared population to deal with.
So long as anyone has a right to bear arms and learn how to aim and shoot them, there is no simple argument against gaming.
