I'm showing my age, but every time I think of Activision I can see its old logo scribbled across the top of an Atari 2600 game. It's a different company now, but the company does have some nostalgia credit (deservedly or not).
What do you expect from a former Microsoft exec (who probably wants to remain in good standing with their former employer?).
The fact is, the outcry was needed. How else are consumers supposed to voice their concerns? It's not like companies respond when consumers say "we respectfully request that you do a, b, and c." They only respond when there is outcry.
