I think some people might have missed OP's point: there's nothing wrong with these types of games, it's just that it's becoming the norm and maybe tired at this point.
The ending was disappointing in how it was delivered. I think what they went with could have worked if it wasn't done in a way that felt rushed and anti-climatic. So many unanswered questions, so many dropped plot threads.
@tigropl Went browsing through my app history. These are all the cartoony-looking games I have ever played, with a low word count. I recommend the website Nitrome for casual, cute, aesthetically pleasing pixel-y flash games. All of the below suggestions are mobile games that might also have PC versions, but I'm not sure. If your friend doesn't mind playing casual cute games on a mobile device then this is the jackpot.
