@Stonecutters908 Hmmmm. I don't fully disagree with your analysis on Nintendos profitability of business model, not that I know for sure, I don't look at their financial stats etc. But, even if we take it that you're 100% correct, that even with poor console sales (25 million) Nintendo still turn a profit, that isn't necessarily or certainly entirely a good thing.

Why? Simply because of the bigger piece of the pie that they are missing.

My interpretation of the Wii U is that they've already failed this gen (this gen meaning the upcoming coming gen - Wii U, 720, PS4).

Wii U can't compete. They've not won initial release sales. The hardcore aren't rushing to buy it, the casuals aren't either. OK, over the next 4 years they might accumulate 25 million sales but their competitors will quickly out-strip those results. Nintendo are losing on the basis that they're console has not and will not be bought by a significant market share of console players.

In addition to that, Apple and Android continue to make billions on the back of their platforms - and this is why Sony and Microsoft are having doubts about the level of success they'll have.

Wii U failing shouldn't surprise anyone. And to solely blame Nintendo's marketing, which was / is very poor, is to miss the point. The machine is lack-lustre. It fails to be compelling.

The PS4/720 run the risk of also being lack-lustre. Firstly we can't be excited about the specs, by the look of it. The Cell for the PS3 was massively exciting. The 360 was much more powerful than standard PCs at the time specs were released (as far as my understanding was). Now we've had it all but confirmed that the PS3/720 specs will be the same as a high end PC, and nothing more. Sure, that's an improvement on the current generation and will naturally allow for better games, but hardly next realm games. Unless they massively improve and/or innovate on controllers.

For me I think Ubisoft is the best fit for most of the franchises.

Metro would be good alongside Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon, Zombi U. They have good FPS franchises but not breakout successes in recent years.

Saints Row would benefit from their experience with Assassins Creed, but is different enough to have it's own place.

Company of Heroes makes sense alongside Tom Clancy games, and the likes of R.I.S.K.

I think Saints Row will be the main draw card for the other publishers. Unless Activision want to Call of Dutyfy Company of Heroes.

@Ladiesman17 Good call. de Blob is kind of Double Fine-ish. A long shot though.

@uglypinkmoose It goes to show how much money developers cost. I'm pretty sure that the first Platinum range for the PS1 were games that had sold a million copies - whcih then was considered highly successful. Now a million copies will barely break even. I think.

@Meta-Gnostic @SavoyPrime I can't see FIFA as anything other than a football game. F1 is unlikely to be anything but a racing game. I'm not quite sure how accurate your postulation is.
