I think this allows metroid and mega man even. Actually Metroid feels like it is a very heavy platformer compared to almost everything but those titles you didn't want on the list, BTW some of Crash Bandicoot is side scrolling.[QUOTE="dchase2k8"]
My idea of a '2d platformer' is pretty simple:
1. main player is in 2D (3D backgrounds are ok)
2. The game is a sidescroller
3. Non-boss 'baddies' die quickly (usually within 1 or 2 strikes).
4. Level design heavily consist of jumping to and from platforms--over various obstacles--while solving various puzzles.
shooters, action games, etc that follow the above criteria are all fine to be included in this list.

The titles I don't want on the list (Mario, & Sonic) are there because everybody would have them in their top 10. They're both VERY popular and VERY good 2d platformers. What I was hoping to accomplish with this list is finding more original 2d platformers, finding new titles we may have not played before and I've definitely found some and am hoping to find more.
