This retro pixel trend can't die soon enough. I don't spend $400 to $2000 on a new device to play games with 30 year old graphics. It was cute at first. Then a month passed and it was already obnoxious.
This is my leading contender for GOTY (which will all but certainly go to a Nintendo exclusive this year). But on my PC, PS4, and Xbox One this is the original game that keeps drawing me in. (Note: still in the early stages of Inquistion, so it might win me over. However, the intro was disappointing. It also leans too heavily on DA 2 which a LOT of fans didn't bother with because of BioWare's errors and arrogance. A clean slate would have been preferable.)
I am selective about what DLC I buy. And if the DLC is good enough, the season pass is a money saver. It is more about not pre-ordering and waiting for reviews. The crappy free gifts you get from a pre-order aren't worth buying a bad game.
Pychobabble and stating the obvious. Maybe next week will be more interesting. Next week's topic certainly lends itself to a more interesting segment.
The key thing that it failed to address in my mind is the graphical limits on creating oneself in a game. Even with the best, most robust character creators (haven't created one in Inquisition yet), I have found it impossible to create a character that looks anything like me. Video game beards have almost universally looked bad up to this point and my beard has been the most constant aspect of my physical appearance for over a decade. I have had hippie hair and had a shaved head. My weight has fluctuated. But the beard has been there and has looked like crap in every game I have experimented with. Of course in deep RPGs I tend to play through with multiple characters of varying looks and genders and races.
But in MMOs, I like going for underrepresented characters. Female dwarves and orcs in Warcraft. Dark skinned humans. Night elves that wear clothing...
