I realized today that from a horsepower perspective, the Wii is more powerful than the GC in the same way, the same amount, as the PS2 is more powerful than the Dreamcast.
In both scenarios, multiply the weaker system's clock speeds by 1.5, and more or less double the Ram, and there you have it.
Dreamcast PS2
200MHz cpu -> 300MHz cpu (1.5 x)
100MHz gpu -> 150MHz gpu (1.5 x)
16MB memory -> 32MB memory (2 x)
GameCube Wii
485MHz cpu -> 729MHz cpu (1.5 x)
162MHz gpu -> 243MHz gpu (1.5 x)
40MB memory -> 104MB memory (>2 x)
I know this is ballpark city, since these are only basic details. A processor with twice the clock speed may take twice as many cycles to do the same thing as another processor, afterall, so this is only part of the picture.
Nonetheless, there is a fairly strong connection here. Maybe we should expect the Wii to be about as superior to the GC as the PS2 is to the Dreamcast, to keep our hopes realistic. Think of Shadow of the Colossus vs. Crazy Taxi...maybe in 5 years we'll have [some good looking Wii game] vs. Smash Bros. Melee, with a similar leap in graphics.

Top Ten Next Gen Games
by delessangeles on Comments
10. Red Steel
I sincerely hope this game ends up being as good as it has the potential to be. Katana plus guns plus the wii-mote? Yes please.
9. Final Fantasy 13
I'm currently playing through the entire Final Fantasy series (beat 6, 9, and 10, working on 8, then will look for 7...) and I am in love with it. Because of this, I can't wait to see what Square throws at us next, and FFXIII looks like it'll be pretty sweet.
8. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Wii
This has some serious potential. If it is in fact online and allows you to adventure through a Final Fantasy adventure with your friends wirelessly, this may end up being an incredibly good game. Perhaps as good as its predecessor could have been.
7. Zelda: Twilight Princess
This used to be my number one most anticipated game, but it's been delayed so many times that I'm frankly ticked off. It still looks great though, and I'm looking forward to finally playing it when the time comes.
6. Mario Kart Wii
It's inevitable, we all know it. Mario Kart is coming, and I will play it.
5. Smash Bros. Brawl
Brawl is going to be a definite hit for me. I have played its predecessor for 5 years straight, so there's no way that I'm not going to give this iteration a try.
I love RPGs, and one particular game, Tales of Symphonia, just so happens to be my favourite game ever. So here's the thing, I want more, and I hope it's coming to the Wii.

4. Mario Galaxy
I can't wait for this! Mario is done with tennis and parties for now and is finally embarking on a full fledged adventure. It looks graphically impressive, and hands on impressions from the news media always sound extremely positive.
3. Metroid Prime 3
I'm a huge metroid fan. I own and pwn both Metroid Prime 1 and Metroid Prime 2. Now we have 3, with noticeably better graphics, multiple planets, and realistic controls.
2. Halo 3
Just like with Metroid, I am a huge Halo fan. Many a nights I have spent doing Halo lan parties with friends, and I look forward to doing it all over again with Halo 3.

Refreshing Coolness
by delessangeles on Comments
I love how your guys in FF8 get sent on a mission to go kill that sorcerous. There's none of that "ooh, we may have to fight her someday" or "I hope we don't get hurt if we run into her" crap. It was so refreshing for me when the game told me, more or less in these words:
Go kill her. The sniper will assassinate her, the rest of the group must protect him. If the sniper fails, everyone must engage her in an all out assault.
Sweetness baby! Excuse me, I have to go try and kill some b!tch.

Wii Grafix is teh ROXXORZ!!!11!1!
by delessangeles on Comments
Check this thread out, it makes a very solid case for the Wii's graphical capabilties, showing comparisons between Wii and GC titles. http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24963332 I mentioned awhile back how there are 3 levels of Wii graphics, namely the "GameCube-ish" level (SpongeBob), the "Definitely better than GC, but not by a whole lot" level (Metroid Prime 3), and the "Truly Next Gen" level (Mario Galaxy). I'm happy to say that in my opinion, Mario Galaxy now has some company in the top tier of graphics. Splinter Cell has been revealed for the Wii and it truly looks great. The polygon counts are very high, the lighting is great (lots of light bloom, just like every other Wii game, big surprise), and finally there exists a splinter cell game on a nintendo system that sports bump mapping. Anywho, that's good news for all concerned. Life is good.
Cruisin' through the RPGs
by delessangeles on Comments
I beat FF9 in one solid week (40 hours in one week, that's alot of gaming!), and now I've moved on to FF10. It's pretty sweet to be playing through these games all of a sudden, because I got FF3 (aka FF6) way back in '93, and now, THIRTEEN years later, I am finally playing some new Final Fantasies! It's kinda like as if I were a weak character in an rpg, who very quickly got strong later in the game, except instead of getting stronger, I'm getting caught up in my Final Fantasy gaming, it feels great! Anywho, when FF10 is done, I have FF8 waiting, and if I can find FF7 before I finish FF10, then I'll play FF7 next instead of FF8. Final Fantasy and Me (aww): FFI -> FFV - played the american ones, didn't beat any FFVI - beat it, have replayed it at least once every 3 years FFVII - want to play it FFVIII - own it, will play it eventually FFIX - beat it in only 1 week, loved it FFX - in progress... FFX-2 - may not buy...we'll see FFXI - an MMO? lol, no thanks FFXII - very hopeful that it'll be good, may end up buying
Thank You God

Literally, thank God Almighty. I think I've finally gotten over this girl. I had put her on a pedestal, and I think she just knocked herself off of it.
Fingers crossed, I may just be able to finally move on with my life. Thank God.

Girl Problem --> Solution?
by delessangeles on Comments
So my guts have been getting torn out over this girl for about 7 months now. I've gone from cloud nine to suicidal over this girl, and the thought of not being with her messes my head up to this day.
Here's a nice thought though, before I knew her I had no idea that she was out there. Maybe there's some new girl around the corner that I just don't know about yet. Maybe next month I'm going to run into the girl of my dreams, who knows. I might end up being grateful that things didn't work out with this current girl, if the new one turns out to be so much better. Here's to hoping.
