I just wanted to throw some ideas out there for what they could have called the Revolution:
1. Revolution
2. N5
3. Nintendo Go
4. Nintendo BlueWave
5. Nintendo Omega
6. Nintendo Revelations
7. GameCube 2
8. Ultimate Nintendo
9. Nintendo Wii
10. Nintendo 360
11. Fusion
12. Game "Cubed"
I guess "Wii" isn't the end of the world, but I can't deny I'd be much happier to hear it would be called something like Nintendo Omega or something safe like that. From a marketing perspective though, the name has generated alot of interest, which helps get their console noticed more.

This May Seem Deep, But It's Not

Who am I? Yes, that's a very profound question. We all ask it, it's an attempt to bring out something, to have that being inside of us come out, like that alien that came out of that person's stomach and killed all those people on that mother F'ing spaceship, may they rest in peace.
My Plan To Play Revolution This September
by delessangeles on Comments
I'm applying for a co-op job this summer at the "Game Academy". Considering how less than 6 people have applied so far, and the fact that I'm a member of the Uvic Game Development Club, and how low the job requirements are, I will probably get the job. I work there over the summer and then apply for another co-op job for the fall. This time I will apply for EA Games, and when I present my resume as a 3rd/4th year computer science major, who is a member of the GameDev Club, and worked as a teacher at the Game Academy, and have work experience, I could very well get the job. I then move to Vancouver for 4 months to work at EA, which is making games for the Revolution.
And there you have it, if I work there in september, I could be making games for the Revolution itself before it even comes out.

The Stalker Accusation Again...
by delessangeles on Comments
I was talking on msn with a friend who has a crush on some girl and doesn't have the courage to add her on msn, even though it's his only chance to make contact with her for months. I've never met her or anything, and at one point I'm like "just add her, here's her email..." Here's his reaction (I took out the address):
Mark says:
her hotmail is (deleted) although you probably already know that
Well, I saw that coming actually says:
:X
Well, I saw that coming actually says:
actually... no i didn't
Well, I saw that coming actually says:
where did you see that?
Mark says:
childs play, lol
Mark says:
now go add her
Well, I saw that coming actually says:
damn.. you're a worst stalker then i am
Mark says:
hahaha
Mark says:
Im actually flattered
Well, I saw that coming actually says:
damn.. that's freaky
Mark says:
go add her now
I guess I got skillz.

What I Really Want
by delessangeles on Comments
Having these feelings for this girl is killing me on the inside. It might even be better to simply not have ANY feelings in this area at all. Just being totally neutral to girls, and not have to go through such avoidable pain. It's messed up though, cause if I could just turn the pain off, and stop thinking about her, I don't think I would do it. I may actually want to be in pain rather than to feel nothing in this area at all.
Hmm, but maybe I'm only saying that because I am currently being controlled by these emotions! If I were emotionless, I could maybe make a better decision. But wait! Maybe if I were emotionless, I wouldn't be able to see what I really want! Maybe I NEED these emotions to guide me, kind of like how a danger sense is useful.
This is so messed up.

My PC vs. My Revolution
by delessangeles on Comments
Innovation aside, I want to analyze how the horsepower of my new console will compare to my pc.
------------------------------------------------------
Storage:
pc-40 Gigabytes
rev-512 Megabytes
Obviously, my rev doesn't need to hold Microsoft word, Firefox, my downloaded files, music, movies, multiple 4 gigabyte sized games, etc. so it doesn't need anything near 40GBs. For what it does, 512MBs should be plenty. My GC memory card barely ever runs out of memory, and I know it holds way less than 512MBs in it. In terms of storage, I think my rev can hold it's own, given that it just holds minor game data. In fact, I can only have so many games on my pc before I get down to the 20% memory remaining stage, whereas I should be able to have many games for my rev without running out of room, since the rev doesn't have the games installed on it.
Because of this convenient fact, I'm saying...
Winner: rev
----------------------------------------------------
Memory:
pc-512 Megabytes + 256MBs graphics memory
rev-88(+?) Megabytes
512+256 is bigger than 88. Mind you, my pc has to remember alot of different things at once, and may only use 150MBs at a time for certain games. Also, there is still some lack of clarity on the final amount of system memory on Revolution, since there's another 16MBs that was supposed to be in there, making it 104MBs in total. In any case, more memory is better, even if on a pc alot of that memory is being used for other things, there's still more there available for games to use, allowing faster load times, more detail, and larger environments.
Winner: pc
---------------------------------------------------------------
Central Processing Unit:
pc-Pentium 4 2000MHz
rev-Broadway 729MHz
Now this is tricky as heck. Clockspeeds are significant, but aren't everything. For example, the Broadway may have more cache, making it quicker and more efficient. And depending on the architecture, some processors take 4 clock cycles to do a certain operation, while different processors might take only one cycle to do that. So you can have a processor with twice the clockspeed, but maybe it takes twice as many cycles to do certain things! In any case, the GameCube's cpu (IBM "Gekko" 485MHz) was known to be roughly the power of a 733MHz Pentium 3 (so I hear from the president of Factor 5), and here we now have a Broadway cpu that's roughly twice as fast as that. So, if the Broadway is twice as fast as a Pentium 3, and Pentium 4 is more or less twice as fast as a Pentium 3 as well...I can't guess how these two would compare to eachother, they certainly seem to be in the same ballpark performance wise.
The Broadway uses as RISC architecture, and the Pentium uses a CISC architecture. Having personally programmed for both types, and studying them thoroughly at university, I know that RISC is faster and more efficient, for multiple reasons that I won't bother going into here. For that reason, the Broadway has a bit of an edge over the Pentium. Furthermore, the Broadway is quite a few years newer, suggesting it will feature more advanced technology. On the OTHER hand, my pc's cpu does have a clock speed more than twice that of the rev's cpu.
Winner: undetermined, too close to call
----------------------------------------------------------------
Graphics Processing Unit:
pc-Ati Radeon 9550 250MHz
rev-Ati Hollywood 243MHz
The 9550 was made by Ati in 2004, and the Hollywood is being prepared for 2006, so intuitively speaking I expect Hollywood to be a little more refined, or improved, over my pc's gpu. The clock speeds are too close to make a significant difference, but since Nintendo is having this made specifically for their console, I'd assume they are ensuring it has all the right shaders and stuff to be capable of playing the next 5 years worth of games. There is one little trick though, my pc's gpu has vertex shaders, and I'm not sure if the rev's will have those or not, since it's rumoured not to have any new shader's over the GameCube's "Flipper" gpu. If this is true (that rev has no new shaders) I don't think rev can play games like doom 3 which use vertex shaders like crazy. This is all unconfirmed of course, and since Nintendo will be watching over this to make sure it's as bottleneck free as possible, I trust that they will catch things like that.
Winner: Rev...barely
-----------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
The force is telling me that my pc could calculate pi faster than the rev, but I also think my rev will be able to more consistently display prettier games than my pc. This is partly because a console doesn't have to run other processes in the background, and is fully focused on rendering the game, unlike the pc. I also expect better graphics on my rev because developers will design specifically for the rev's capabilities, as opposed to the more generic design we have for pc games. Thirdly, the rev is being put together by Nintendo and has people watching over its development, to make sure there are no bottlenecks, to fine tune details like bandwidth and register sizes, and so on. Because it will be professionally designed, where everything must be integrated together carefully, whereas my pc has some individual parts thrown together, the rev is more likely to be bottleneck free, more efficient, and overall more capable. At the end of the day the truth will reveal itself, as the Revolution launches and I get a chance to play both these machines at once to get a better comparison.
Winner Overall: Revolution, but the Rev probably wouldn't win if it had all the same burdons to carry as a PC

Game Idea
by delessangeles on Comments
The game is called "Halo Chronicles" and is a launch game for Revolution. The concept behind it is that it summarizes the primary events in the Halo story thus far (and fills in the cracks with cutscenes). It features alot of remade levels, such as the "Silent Cartographer", as well as all new levels that take place before Halo1 and between Halo1 and Halo2.
Features:
-Uses revmote, to aim, to deliver satisfying melee attacks
-Single Player / Co-op campaign includes the best levels from Halo 1 and Halo 2, and also a few new ones, such as the fall of Reach, and the journey back to Earth.
-Multiplayer has similar philosophy: features remade maps based on the most popular ones from the last games (Zanzibar, Blood Gulch) and includes some new ones.
-Overall: 20 Levels for the campaign, 20 maps for multiplayer
-Features one consistent graphical style, so that levels originally made for Halo1, Halo2, and the Revolution exclusive levels all look just as good.
-Similarly, new features, such as being able to board vehicles, are enabled in Halo1, which didn't originally have that capability.
-Free online play
One extra cool feature: For the "Fall of Reach" level, up to 16 player co-op is enabled through "Nintendo Wifi Connection", since there were multiple Spartans there in the story.

Fanboy Test
by delessangeles on Comments
So I just took the fanboy test at http://www.nerdtests.com/mq/take.php?id=1256
and here's how I rated:
---------------------------------------
Nintendo Fanboy: 70%
Sony Fanboy: 19%
Microsoft Fanboy: 29%
This means you're: Nintendo FanBoy
---------------------------------------
I'd say that's fairly accurate actually.
