I have both a PS3 and a wii. I too am no longer the gaming monster I once was. I have school to balance after all. So I thought a wii would be fine to satisfy my gaming needs (couple hours a day, everyday). Well, I'll just tell you this. If the wii could satisfy my gaming urges, I wouldn't have spent $574 on a PS3.

The wii has a few big hitters every now and again. Unfortunately, Metroid and Mario aren't my type of game. The only games I have for the wii atm are Zelda TP (loved it, got 72 hours out of this one game.) wii sports, and the rest are gamecube games that I never played last gen like wind waker and twin snakes.

The only wii games I'm looking forward to are No More Heroes and Brawl.

Listen man, the PS3 have solid library atm. You can take it slow and still keep up with the library. The online service on the wii is pretty pathetic. No voice chat, laggy, and barely any games even have online.

The PS3 is an all around good console. It's stable ( no rrod ), it's powerful, next gen graphics, overall solid library with quite a bit of diversity.

In a situation like yours, I can tell you this much: I used to be in the exact same position so i KNOW that there is a pretty good chance you will be disappointed with the wii, but there is virtually no chance you will be disappointed with the PS3.

I only got a PS3 because the wii couldn't quite cut it. 1 game every 3-4 months is ridiculous, but honestly, with all the shovelware being fed to the wii, you will be playing a few games a year.

Get a PS3, take your time, and play the best quality games this gen has to offer.

I first went to EB Games. I never have to look anywhere else other than EB, because they always have the game I'm looking for, and they never disappoint.

I look around on shelves and I couldn't find CoD4 :? So I ask the guy if they have any CoD4 for the PS3 in stock, and the guy said yeah, they have ONE copy left. He comes out from the back 2 mins later and says "uhh...there's a problem. the one copy we have left, the instruction manual is missing." He explained how they showcase empty game cases, and that while this CoD4 case was up there, the manual got stolen.

I wanted the manual, it just felt better than buying just the CD, y'know?

I headed over to Hi Tech. A very very small gaming store run by just a couple of guys. They had lots of PS3 games, but not CoD4.

So I went to some big box stores. First up, Zellers. NO COD4!!

Next up, Toys R Us. Wow. This store DIDNT EVEN HAVE A PS3 SECTION! I swear it. Along the walls there are HUGE sections of games categorized in Xbox, PS2, Wii, DS, PSP, Xbox 360. There was no shelf area along the walls for PS3 games....and no game racks for PS3....

So i come home disappointed as hell that I couldn't get a copy of CoD4 and that Toys R Us apparently doesn't even sell PS3 games.

I'm probably gonna go out and get COD4 tmrw. It will be my first FPS since Halo1 so many years ago. I usually download and try demos like Turok and The Darkness but I could never really get into FPS's. Hopefully COD4 will do what halo did for me.

Anyone else have any input on how COD4 online might be like for a guy in my position?

Will we be able to use our headsets in HOME? It better, it would be great it they had it, and terrible if they dident.

Haseokicksass

I'm curious about this too...I really hope it does support online voice chat. I think it will though, because HOME is trying it's best to clone Xbox Live features, which is fine by me...and in doing so, it SHOULD support voice chat.

there is no button that you have to push to communicate with a microphone (like Resistance and Warhawk). You simply talk loud enough and everybody hears you. So nearly anything you say or even the volume from the TV sometimes will be heard by everyone.

ChrisGTA777

Everyone? Say if you're playing a Team vs Team type match and you talk into your mic, can the opposite team hear you as well?

Well when I first played online it felt like that, but after a while it seems like the game has slowed down to your pace, making it a whole lot more fun....I would highly reccomend getting this game even if you arent great at FPS because after a few days this game will seem much easier and more enjoyable

rahul_batta

Sounds good you guys :)

[Yes and no. There is some teamwork required for some modes, but headshots are either the results of:

1. An extremely good player.

2. A stalker who keeps getting on your case.

3. A hacker.

Try some other modes of COD4 online, or try the campaign on Veteran.

Zakum2

I see. Doesn't sound as bad as mpo (in terms of everyone firing for headshots). I'll look into it.

Anyone else have anything to say on the matter?...

I'm not good at FPS games, but I want to pick up modern warfare because everyone says it's so fun and a lot of my friends have it for their PS3's and I want to play w/ them. However, I have had bad experiences with online shooters. I will try to get used to playing real people online but before I can take more than 4 steps i will get shot in the face. I respawn, and it just keeps happening.

A good example of this is MGS:PO online. It's brutal.

So is COD4 like this? Is it just a contest of who can aim for the head the fastest, or is there actual strategy and teamwork involved online?

*main ideas are bolded.
