In my opinion the answer is an unequivocal YES!

Without spoiling anything I will say that I was impressed and 100% fascinated by the story and strong presentation found in Other M. The revalatory movie near the end and the final plot twists were fantastic. Blew my mind! And what this story has added to, and opened up within the Metroid Universe (my favorite universe of course) is astounding. Even if you are of the mind that having a story in the game wasn't all that, I'd like to hope you could at least recognize and appreciate the effort Nintendo finally put into fleshing out a main and beloved character and franchise. As well as the quality with which it happened.

Several scenes made me wonder what a remake of Super Metroid or Metroid II would look like in the Other M style. It's that good. And the story made me ponder a sequel to Fusion perhaps (as this game leads into Fusion)? Or even a brand new story line like the Prime games introduced?

Whatever gameplay style would be chosen for the next game, and I would be perfectly fine with another just like Other M (only maybe longer and on a planet this time would be cool), I personally would love to see this level of story telling to continue. Because I love Samus. And I can't get enough of her.

So what are your guys' thoughts?

Darth-Samus

I agree 100%. I've played and beat every Metroid when it was new (Although never beat Prime: Hunters, touch screen stunk for it) and Other: M is the first one since Super Metrod where I really got that "something" that classic style Metroid games provide. I can't really describe it, but I know it when I play it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Primes too, but they never had the same feel as the side scrollers. This one does. It really is the abolsute BEST way to get the side scrolling Metroid feel into 3D.

The story and narrative definately is a positive addition. Fusion did it very well for the GBA hardware, and I'm really enjoying it here. All the whiners *coughG4cough* who wanted Samus to just be a cookie cutter "badass" who kills things and doesn't care about anyone or anything can go kiss off. Go play God of War, you obviously want to play as Kratos. I am much happier with a deeper, more thought out, and interesting character than what has been put into video games a thousand times before.

Kudos to Project M. While Other: M definately has a few issues that a sequal should iron out, its easily my favorite Wii game yet and the best Metroid since Super. (Sorry, Super is still #1)

It makes me sad to see so many people who started with Prime. Don't get me wrong, Prime and its sequels were great games; but they all were missing something. A few hours into Other M, and IMO it has that "something" that was missing from the Primes. I hope we see more Other: M style Metroids, maybe with fixes to the issues it does have.

So far my only major complaint is the anoying parts where it forces you into first person and you HAVE to find some detail before you can move on. Ussually that detail is so small and hard to see I end up scanning around for 10 minutes yelling "WHERE THE $%#@ IS IT??!!" until I finally find it.

So far I've played and beat every Metroid when it was new. (Except I never beat Prime: Hunters. I just couldn't get into the touch screen controls for it)

It depends, we need more details about the 3DS other than "ohhh 3D." Unlike touch screens and the Wiis motion controls, 3D is really just a bell and whistle, not something that will add anything to the game. Will just look pretty.

The 3DS needs to be backwards compatable with regular DS games. Also, would love to see a 3DS Virtual Console. Not just for current Virtual Console games, but throw up Game Boy and GBA games too.

If they make the 3DS versitile, to basically be a handheld Wii, then I'm in. But if its just a DS with 1 3D screen, no thanks.

The low scores a few review sites gave M:OM shouldn't be viewed as bias towards Nintendo. But rather, its the bias that each individual reviewer had towards how they expected Samus' personality to be.

All the reviews have geverally the same complaints. The controls could be better (Nunchuk pls) and the cutscenes are a bit long. Those are the main issues which kept it around 8 to 8.5 in most reviews.

However, the big X factor is Samus' personality. When a character has been around for 20 years with no personality, people imagine what it would be like. And when the realty doesn't match their expectations, they get mad and say Nintendo "ruined" the character because its not how they envisioned it in thier heads. Its the eternally "What I think is always best" syndrome.

The best example is the G4 2/5 review. Abbie had an image of Samus in her mind as basically Kratos with Boobs. When she turned out to be a lot more complex than that, Nintedo "ruined" her. However, Abbie failed to consider Fusion, the end of Zero Mission, and even the Metroid Manga. It seems the portrayal in Other M is correct. A women with major emotional issues (you know, from watching her family get slaughtered and growing up with a bunch of bird people,) who fights through them alone, overcomes them, and kills space pirates; is accurate. And its been building for the last 10 years. This game just lays it on the table.

The people who don't like having Samus' personality laid in front of them scored the game low. Those who didn't mind it gave it decent to strong reviews. Its all a matter of taste and what thier preconcieved mental image of Samus is.

Wow. Nintendo hasn't put this kind of effort into pushing a franchine game in a long time. Bravo! I havn't gotten that excited tingly feeling for a game since I was a kid. This commercial does the job.

Now do I pre-order and have to wait for the mailman on the 31st, or run out and buy a copy first thing in the morning. Decisions decisions...

At least in the Narrtive parts, her voice is very montone. That may be by design, won't know until we get to see the entire game and not just trailers. The key to whether its good voice acting or not will be how she sounds during the more heated and emotional parts. At least in the flashbacks, theres obviously some heated conversations (IE, the one flashback clip where she is pointing into the distance yelling at Adam, just no sound in that clip for the trailer)

So hopefully the Montone voice is by design and meant to be part of the character (as it does make sense, the solo and emotional cold bounty hunter is expected to have a cold monotone voice.) But will really need to play the whole game before final judgement is passed.

Yes, its a collectors item at this point, being that it was discontinued 8 months ago, after only being available for 4 months. Try to find them online now, its impossible unless they are from auction or private seller sites. And for new and sealed, it can go for 70 to 100 bucks.

That being said, there are still some out there at retailers if you get lucky. I live in a small town in AZ with aparently very few Metroid fans. I was able to pick one up at our local Wal Mart last week, and they still have two copies left. Very lucky on my part, being that I didn't know it was disconinuted until a few days before I bought it.

ATTENTION STOP TAKING IT OFFENSIVE THAT I COMPARED HALO AND METROID B4 YOU GUYS ACT LIKE FIVE YEAR OLDS READ MY COMMENT FOR MY REASON BEHIND IT

jordan121294

My comment was much more well thought out and in depth than an insult a 5 year old would use, thank you very much.

Metroid is NOT a first person franchise. Nor is it a First Person Shooter. The Prime Series is a First Person Adventure, where the emphasis is on exploration and finding items, not pewpewing baddies like with Halo. Metroid is a pioneering franchise which is close to 25 years old. Older than you I'm willing to bet. Halo is a recycled shooter game that owes its exsistence to Doom, Duke Nukem, Goldeneye, and countless other FPS's that came before.

The charastierization is offensive for anyone who grew up with Nintendo and the classic / revolutionary games that it produced. Its like telling a classic rock fan "Justin Beiber is like 2010's Led Zepplin." They're both music right?

Your idea is absurd, now please go put on dark black clothing and go walking through the streets near your locals bars at closing time.

I came in here expecting to see something that was not all beautiful visually, and I was not disappointed. it probably sucks at it job too, only good for a trophy:Pgamefan67

Has everyone forgotten the Golden N64 Controller that was available in conjunction with the original Goldeneye? I actually still have mine stuffed in a box somewhere. I suppose I should find it, I'm sure those things are rare nowadays.

While I'm not going to buy it, it is a nice throwback to the original Goldeneye release.

Just for that comment, I hope you get AIDS. Then live with AIDS for 10 years, always fearing when it would kick in. After 10 years of living with AIDS, you go to a brand new clinic and are the first recipient of the newly discovered Cure for AIDS. Finally, on your way home from the clinic after having your AIDS cured, full of hope and joy for the rest of your life, you're killed by a drunk driver. THATS what I wish upon you for such a blasphamous comment.
