Does this look right to you or should the heatsink/fan be facing another direction?

That's not to good, really there is no ''correct'' way to mount a heatsink, now generally most people install the heatsink with the fan facing the RAM, as airflow from the front fan/s usually provide a easy and great way to get air flow to the heatsink and fan. There is really no wrong way, it just depends on how your case is setup and where the airflow is going. Some people install the heatink horizontally with the fan facing downward because they have a fan installed at the top of the case helping to pull air from the heatink.
The only real ''wrong'' way to install a heatsink and fan is to have it facing the back exhaust fan, because then, the heatsink fan and rear case fan will be fighting for air and little heat will be getting removed from the system, other then that, it just depends on where you have fans in the case and making sure that there is air getting to the heatsink (even if it's not a lot, as the fan on the heatsink itself is usually enought to generate a good amount of airflow through the heatink on it's own), and that the fan on the heatsink is able to exhaust the hot somewhere outside the case.
The way you installed that heatsink isn't very good really, as the hot air getting pushed out the heatink is going straight to the video card and other components and that will murder overall temps.
The only other way would be facing the back exhaust fan, which is worse than the current direction. It can't be that bad is Thermaltake recommended it (probably because there is no other option). I have 2 rear fans so it should be OK.
