[QUOTE="desertpython"]Who needs AdBlock Plus? Google Chrome beta has that built in, and then you use Privoxy to block the other 80%. No need for chunky addons for firefox.covertgamer78
There are a boatload of other addons I use for Firefox and I love the custom skins too.

Maybe, but do you really need all of them?

[QUOTE="C_Rule"]Can't be as bad as Opera. Atm, it's using 600mb. :D But I put up with it, it is after all the fastest browser, and everything else about it is great. The most RAM I've managed to use (with a game) was 3.5GB and that was with the most horribly ported game. GTA4 + Opera + WMP.covertgamer78
Firefox uses up to 1.5GB then after that it simply freezes and I have to restart it or else the memory leakage would continue. I HAVE to use Firefox for one reason - AdBlock Plus. I can't live without it and I can't stand the proliferation of ads I see without it. There are a lot of other reasons I use Firefox but that is the big one. GTA IV was not ported well. Mafia II runs @ constant 60 FPS with AA for me with few exceptions and that is very similar to GTA IV.

Does this look right to you or should the heatsink/fan be facing another direction?

That's not to good, really there is no ''correct'' way to mount a heatsink, now generally most people install the heatsink with the fan facing the RAM, as airflow from the front fan/s usually provide a easy and great way to get air flow to the heatsink and fan. There is really no wrong way, it just depends on how your case is setup and where the airflow is going. Some people install the heatink horizontally with the fan facing downward because they have a fan installed at the top of the case helping to pull air from the heatink.

The only real ''wrong'' way to install a heatsink and fan is to have it facing the back exhaust fan, because then, the heatsink fan and rear case fan will be fighting for air and little heat will be getting removed from the system, other then that, it just depends on where you have fans in the case and making sure that there is air getting to the heatsink (even if it's not a lot, as the fan on the heatsink itself is usually enought to generate a good amount of airflow through the heatink on it's own), and that the fan on the heatsink is able to exhaust the hot somewhere outside the case.

The way you installed that heatsink isn't very good really, as the hot air getting pushed out the heatink is going straight to the video card and other components and that will murder overall temps.

The only other way would be facing the back exhaust fan, which is worse than the current direction. It can't be that bad is Thermaltake recommended it (probably because there is no other option). I have 2 rear fans so it should be OK.

Yep, that way works just fine. It really doesn't matter which way you orient the heatsink in your situation, as you have an exhaust fan pulling air out of the case either way.

Great. Finally, does it matter if you slightly shifted the cooler on top of the CPU before clamping it down? I had to move it slightly back twice to make sure it was properly positioned. Didn't remove it though.

Right, I couldn't mount the heatsink as in the image as my socket is mounted differently. I followed Thermaltake's instructions exactly down to the way the Tt is shown, mounting the heatsink so the fan faces my 6870 here:

Idle temps on boot are just over 33 degrees celsius, compared to 40 for the other way around. Is this sufficient? I will also get a TriCool 120mm fan for the front of the case. But is this way up OK?

I'll be putting it this way:

Sounds good. That's the way I have it too... well, if my motherboard was right side up :P

Thermaltake's instructions hold it should face the GPU, but this was a decent overclocker's website so anyway. Off to Thermaltakes thermal paste.

Well, typically the fan is put in a push orientation; that is, pushing air through the heatsink instead of pulling it out of it. And as for the orientation of the heatsink itself, do you have a top exhaust fan? If not, then you should orient it in an east-west direction instead of the north-south direction you have it in currently.

ravenguard90

I have one 140mm top exhaust fan and 1 120mm exhaust fan at the rear. So which side? Fan facing the GPU? The DVD burner?

Should it be positioned like this:

[QUOTE="covertgamer78"]It will only make a difference if you are close to using all 4GB in apps. I come close to that in games when I have Firefox open with its persistent memory leakage, so this helps me a lot. Some games use above 2GB of RAM as well, so this helps in that situation also.C_Rule

Chrome would be the fastest. Very slick.
