He has an old gateway monitor he bought off somebody. I didn't think to mention the 6870. Is the 5870's performance margin over the 6870 enough to justify its price, or will the 6870 get it done at 1280x1024?

IU_Stizzal

The 6870 is slower but cheaper. By slower I mean it can play any game at 1080p at less than 10% difference than the 5870. At your resolution you won't have a problem. I would still recommend a new monitor first, something like this:

Might want to open your case, and make sure it is clean from dust, also make sure all of your fans are working...

It wouldn't hurt to make sure your videodrivers are up to date...

also be a good thing to run a Virus Scan..

ESET.com go there, and download a 1 month free trial of Nod32, it is THE BEST ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM.

Lach0121

I wouldn't bother with Eset. Microsoft Security Essentials does all you need for free.

Perhaps, but it is a free trial.

I think instead of renewing my license with Nod, cause even though it is fantastic, We usually download all of our stuff from official sites. (don't get virus's much) so I was thinking of going with a great free one, like MSE or AVast or something of the sort.

I don't think we need premium AV because we don't download all that much, and what little porn we look at, I am sure that MSE or AVast would be able to take care of any problems, if they come.

If you want porn I'd recommend pornBB and Youporn. Haven't been infected from those. Apart from MSE (which would be my top choice) I'd run a weekly scan with Malwarebytes just to make sure nothing has slipped through.

I am looking to upgrade too, do they make one of those in a 24 inch or a 25.5 inch? (or anywhere in between of course)?

I am in the United States btw.

Here. It is available in the US.

If he has a 965 (and why game at that resolution?) tell him to buy a new monitor and a 6870.

Try an earlier date. If it still happens install HWInfo32 and post your temps.

Update history. If it won't use System Restore and go back a few days.

The first game supports 360 controller, so Crysis 2 should too. Although I don't see why you would want to play this game with a controller, I tried doing it with Crysis and it was pretty horrible.

Really? It was fine with me. I just don't really like having to deal with numerous keys at once, save for WASD.

How can you shoot without a mouse? That I will never understand.

That CPU is a bottleneck. You could try overclocking, but I'd build a new PC with bits of your old one; what 4800 card?

chikenfriedrice

It's the 4850

You could use that and then build a new cheap system around an Athlon x4 640 + Gigabyte 870A-UD3 + your current GPU. Add some DDR3 and Windows 7 x64 Home Premium OEM.
