Last time I bought one it broke in 15min, with the circuitry screwing up and showing lines. Never again. Buy a Panasonic plasma.

Currently I wouldn't buy either one, since Intel is supposed to release a whole new high-end type socket next year.

But, given the choice between 1156 and 1366, I'd go 1366. For me the options are either to go cheap and effective with AMD/AM3, or go all the way with LGA 1366. That way you have all of the high-end CPUs available to you, as well as triple-channel RAM, and a more powerful chipset- X58.

I thought the new socket was mostly supposed to be for more budget minded consumers, as they'll be using the new integrated cpu/gpu chips.

True - Sandy Bridge. I'd build an AM3 system.

[QUOTE="tequilasunriser"] Considering the components he's selected, I don't think cost is an issue.tequilasunriser

That's the point. You don't need to spend that much.

Of course you don't, however, you don't needa gaming computer either do you?

A gaming PC can be built for $1K, not 3.

You need a fatter bus width (256 or higher) to pump out data with a lot of fast memory that can take all that data (GDDR5) combined with plenty of raster backends for processing and shaders generally to provide good FPS. In other words, everything counts!

The 5970 is just about obsolete and the 6870 will outlast the 6850.

Let me get this straight. You're calling the 5970, a card with double the performance of a 6870, obsolete?

Yes, the 69xx will replace it. Its obsolete in terms of the model, not the performance.

They don't offer much more yet. But when the 6850 starts to run out of puff that extra muscle in the 6870 will help.

kaitanuvax

What kind of logic is that? You might as well get a HD 5970 because it has that much more puff, right?

I'm speaking in terms of bang per buck, and clearly 6870 doesn't have as much as the 6850.

Personally I wouldn't get a HD 6870.

The cards TO GET right now are the $160 GTX 460 768MB, $180 HD 6850, and $190 GTX 460 1GB if you're looking for high end performance while still having a beastly price-performance ratio. The HD 6870 / GTX 470 are about $50 more and don't offer that much more.

Of course, THE BEST price-performance card right now is the 4850. ;DD

790FX is outdated. Get the 890FX:

This will last for a long time.

In Device Manager look at the options for sleep for USB ports and your internet connection (ethernet or wireless) and adjust the sleep settings. Look in the BIOS too.
