Depending on where you live, £18/$30 will get you an official xbox 360 wired controller for windows with 8 - 10ft of cable, easily enough for pc gaming, considering my last 2 controllers didnt have 10ft between them

i can run gow and other dvd games on vista no problem
it could be that your using a Cd drive?
your dvd drive isnt fast enough, ie. 8x instead of 16x?
also, if you go on to your computer, search through the dvd drive and look for the autorun file, right click - properties and try to find an option to run it in a previous version of windows, ie. XP sp2, and run as administrator
if not then i dont no
just searched the chillstream, looks exactly like the xbox game pad, except its logitech obviously
also it does make sense, windows --> microsoft, xbox --> microsoft, so the controllers should work
although only the wired ones, the wireless i tihnk you need an adapter which brings it to about £30, hmv i think its off
