Racism does exist, and certainly I've known of White people who may as well have been Black at a Klan rally... Several years ago, a man was coming out of a Safeway with his young daughter, and was Stormed by Hispanics, one of whom beat the Crap out of him with a Metal Baseball bat... This is called a Gang Initiation... And people wanna call Trump a Racist for addressing issues with illegal immigration... I once took a wrong turn looking for a delivery drop in Oakland, CA... There were 4 or 5 Black guys standing on a corner in what had suddenly turned into the god damned Ghetto... They eyed me with the same predatory look I'd gotten from some Neo Nazis several years back...
I don't mean to undercut any Legitimate Racism experienced by Anyone, but I'm getting tired of this "Blacks are being oppressed by the White Man" epidemic... If and when that happens, its bullshit, no doubt... The entire premise of Racism is Bunk...
I've also had a friend of mine who happens to be black, confirm that there are self perpetuating habits within the Black Community that are not helpful... He said if anyone from his old neighborhood in Los Angeles knew he told me that, he'd be called an "Uncle Tom"... There is much more to Racism in America than Minorities vs. Whites, and frankly I'm tired of seeing it portrayed as such... Then there's the Black College professor who wrote that Essay about how White people are all Racists inherently, even if they have black friends yuk yuk yuk, they just can't help it... Think if a White College professor had done that about Blacks, Holy Shit... Most of my good friends have been White, so this kinda Shite bothers me, alot... The last person to throw some Racism at me was a good friend of mine for 14 years, said he didn't understand my Politics because I've got Dark Skin (so, I should be a Liberal, right?)... And were you making reference to Michael Brown? You know that "Hands Up" thing was BS, right?
@rasterror: I'd like to think that I do have some capacity for understanding here, much in the way I can sort of (but never fully) understand a Veteran of War's experience... If you were beaten by the Police simply for the color of your skin, that is abhorrent... I'm sure you can contact the DOJ with the proper information and at the least have it looked into... Were you resisting arrest? What were the circumstances? Likewise, with your friend having his face spray painted White, that is beyond comprehension... The same thing happened to a little Black girl, and in 1994 the movie "Whitewash" depicted this... I do not pretend that Racism doesn't exist, that is a Fools Errand... Having said that, none of the Black people I've known have had similar experiences... Difficulties in other ways, sure, like everyone else, nothing so violent though... Sorry to hear you've gone through this, but if you would provide some more details on these incidents I would be grateful, and not the least because I'm willing and interested to hear what you have to say...
@ShadowStyleB: It depends on what circumstances we are talking about... I don't think that a Black man would have been elected president during that period, for instance... Racism has been around alot longer than the USA, and as long as people who look different from one another are around, it will exist for some time to come... Think about the difference between pre-MLK America and Post... The Quality and Quantity of racism since the 60's has improved to be sure... That's what I meant... And to be clear, a White police officer who shoots a Black person is all to often held up as an example of "Racism", when the actual circumstances of the situation tell a different story...
Racism today, while it does exist, has become more of a Buzzword than a pervasive societal problem...
@rasterror: I'd argue that the "Truth" about Racism in America more of a political tool than a harsh reality... To be sure, racism exists, though not on the scale in which popular culture too often believes it does...
@butterworth: Its not so much a "notion" as a reality... But that is interesting that its in there... Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with games addressing issues such as Racism, which certainly exists among All Races... But the Racism of the late 60's is Dead...
Saw it in Glorious 3-D with a friend who's more familiar with the Warcraft Universe than myself, thought it was well worth the $$$ to get in... One of the better movies I've seen this year (btw, still haven't seen episode 7, so that's not a jab at SW)...
