[QUOTE="Thegreatgig"]You'd have to re-install the OS, 64bit version to make use of it. There's no way to just switch the OS from 32bit to 64bit. Maybe best buy can help you with it....? Though in the end, I think you'll have to purchase a new version of a 64bit OS. When you purchase Windows 7 you get both the 32bit and 64bit versions. So you should not need to purchase a new version but Best buy may charge you for the re-installation.I just got a new laptop from best buy(toshiba sattelite) and it asked me which version of windows 7 to install. I didnt do much research so i chose the 32 bit version. I then realised it only recognizes 2.84gigs of my 4 gigs of ram. Is there any way to change to 64 bit? It didnt come with a cd btw.

[QUOTE="dison_uk"]However how many people like me are starting to avoid full price items knowing they probably be reduced at a later date?UpInFlames
According to Valve, not many. They say that baseline sales actually increase after the sale because it "energizes" the player base.
Yes but that's probably Their figures rather than the market as a whole. Steam Have quite possibly increased off the back off heavy discounting. But are more people buying more PC Games. Are Steam just getting a larger piece of a smaller cake? The trouble is with Download sales figure not being published no one knows how big the PC Games Market is.At work today I had convinced myself that my next purchase was going to be Burnout paradise. However all thoughts of this went it disarray when discovering Steam has got yet another fire sale.
I already over purchased at the Thanksgiving sale buying Mirrors Edge,Majesty 2, Dead space and the complete THQ pack numbering 20+ games and add ons. For me that will be that's a years gaming only spending 2 weeks on each title. I am staring to reach games saturation point yet only spent a fraction on what I spent before buying 10 titles per year. Therefore the question I am asking is why are they doing this?
Possible explanations...
- They make more money on games near the end of there life cycle. The cost of computer games is front loaded with the exception of packaging and marketing and retail the majority of the costs of making a computer game is prior to release. As digital games have no packaging and all marketing costs and retail costs are met by the digital provider in theory more units sold at whatever price mean greater profits. If a game its several years old you might as sell it any any cost rather than any cost at all. True that might explain selected reductions not the whole catalogue changes that of occurred in this steam sale. Also Stalker at 90% off an already discounted does not make sense unless the sales increases 10 fold.
- Using a game as a lost leader. The next Stalker is being released soon in the States . Could selling at such a low price encourage you to pay full price for the sequel. Or would you wait until the next sale?
- Price War with other Digital download sites. Is Steam having a sale to spoil sales on other sites (e.g. D2D 31days of Christmas sale)?
I suppose for us in the short term cheaper games is a better thing. However how many people like me are starting to avoid full price items knowing they probably be reduced at a later date? Are the games companies selling enough cheap games to replace the lost sales of full price games?
As for Burnout Paradise I am delaying my purchase until after Christmas. I'm betting it will be in the 1 only day sales
One of the most interesting games I have played this year. Yes it's short hence not worth full price but it oozes with charm.
- Quite a strong narrative with a twist to the tale
- Unique Artwork
- A brawler rather than a shooter (makes a change)
- Additional content in the form of Arena style survivor levels with achievements
Don't expect a life changing experience but if you appreciate originality it is a definite sale.
As far as I see both Activision/Blizzard and EA are in it for one thing making money just 2 different approaches.
Activision/Blizzard try and go for the maximum income per unit while at the moment EA is trying to sell more units.
Examples...
High price of MW2 and focused on its highest payers (Console Owners), WOW charging for additional contents pets and name changing charges.
A E.A product being in every day of the steam sale while I cannot recall any Activision products being available.
We only think Activision arepariahs because of the money making approach goes against our concerns. I don't buy Activision/Blizzard Products not because I think there evil just that for what they offer they are overpriced.
Is prince of persia worth it? I used to want to buy it, but now that I have a couple unfinished games it isn't as appealing. I could go out and rent it for xbox, but is it worth buying? Tempted to buy BF2, but I'll just wait till 1943, as BF2 is starting to look datedJordo321I'd rent Prince of Persia and buy BF2. Despite the game being 4 years old it still very popular. This game does not have to rely on it beauty to be very enjoyable. Considering with BF2 and its add ons would have cost over $60 new this is the best bargain of the day(IMHO). BF1943 is 4 maps this has over 20 + Mods.
Random fact, Majesty 2 is no longer on sale, and is now in fact cheaper than the sale price - http://store.steampowered.com/app/25980/ I think this is probably some kind of bug with the Steam store caused by the sale, so I recommend anyone who is even mildly interested in the game scoop it up now before someone notices :Pkieranb2000Thanks for the Heads Up. I was differing whether to get this or not . As there is nothing in today's sale that has tempted me I'm going to grab it while I can. On another Note - I can recommend Trine for anyone looking well polished platform experience.

My hopes to but since they never discounted COD:MW1 I cannot believe Activision will have a change of heart this time.My hopes:
- Borderlands 50%
- Dawn of Discovery 50%
- Mirror's Edge 75%
- RA3 Uprising 50%
- MW2 33%
