Geezer! Did you have Dungeons and Dragons? I think that was the adventure game I remember my cousins having.
I would not point to inflation for the $60 XBOX games. You would have a better change arguing for the added content, but I remember my old Coleco Vision games being $45 to $50 and this was back in the early 1980's. Games have been around this price, with a few exceptions*, for what...20 years?
*Phantasy Star IV for the Genesis was over $100
*Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo was close to $80.
*Final Fantasy III on the Super Nintendo was around $60 to 70$.
I happen to think that many X-BOX games are overpriced, about $10 IMHO. This Christmas is when I got back into console gaming and the last console I played was the PS1 that I bought way back in 1996. So maybe it is the sign of the times, but $59.99 stings a little. $45 to $50 is enough and I dare say this pricing has remained fairly constant over the generations of video game consoles reaching back to the second generation (1982) when I started.
My biggest gripe with SF4:
1) Online play: Finding a player is a pain. In my experience the matches I find I usually get "Unable to play" or the game is filled and it kicks you right back to search. This is poor design. SF4 is not the game on XBL that suffers from this as COD4, L4D, GoW2 suck too. I have been a avid PC gamer for the last 10 years and I am used to the ease of dedicated servers when finding games.
2) Controller: Seriously, what more could be said? The XBOX controller sucks for fighting games, period. I would have expected Capcom to put pressure on Microsoft about updating their controller. MK vs. DCU sucks even worse, but SF4 is not that much farther ahead.
Has anyone used the Mad Catz fight pad? I do not feel like shelling out another $80 for a fight stick.
MY own was the NES, which of course came with SMB/Duck Hunt. I think the next game I got was Mega Man 2. I can't remember. The first game owned in the family was the Intellivision (technically my brother's). I think it came with Las Vegas Blackjack. ebbderelictYou must be as old as I am. My first system was the Coleco Vision. First game? I think it came with Donkey Kong.
This was back in the day when the Video Game wars was between Atari, Coleco, and Intelivision.
Yes they are a bit tricky , or should I say a royal pain in @$$ ! This is where the 360 controller really shows it's weakness. I first really noticed on Ultimate MK .My combos were just not stringing together right ,very frustrating. It's just not fighter friendly . There is a Street Fighter controller coming out for 360 .Hopefully this will be much better for MK and Street Fighter . I put the game on hold until the new controller is released. Meanwhile I heard that Microsoft is designing a new Controller with better d-pad response ,We will see . twobad4u
Well thank god I am not the only one who thinks so, especially for this game. I bought my 360 this Christmas and have been disappointed with MK vs. DC because of the frustrating controls.Yet other people seem to be good at combos...especially during ranked matches.
I started my own thread about this yesterday asking for people's opinions. I figured it was a messed up controller (both my controllers act different with the D-pad), unfamilarity with the game mechanics, or just sloshy XBOX controls.
I have SFIV on pre-order so I may drop some cash on the arcade style fight stick.
Hello all,
My GF's son bought MK vs. DC after Christmas and I have been playing it fairly regularly and noticed that the controls seem rather sluggish or unresponsive at times. I find it difficult to do many special moves at a quick pace; i.e., Sub Zero's Icy Telelport then Icy Slide. I inevitably end up kneeing someone instead of the slide. This is just one example.
I find the D-pad to be irritating between controllers so perhaps it is a hardware issue. One controller will be quick to respond to a quick double tap down for Superman's ground punch, but the other controller registers only one down tap. All I have to do on the first controller is hold down+away to do the Icy Nugget, but the next controller I need to press down and roll to away.
Are the game mechanics 'different' for me or are my controllers jacked, or is the controls for the XBOX suck? Has anyone else have had a similar experience?
Before anyone says I suck at fighting games, I can pop in Soul Blade or Tekken 3 on my PS1 and have a go with no problem. I have never had such a frustrating experience with the controls in a fighting game before.
I am worried that if it is an issue with the controllers themselves or if the XBOX 360 controls are just not good for fighting games (find that hard to believe) then SFIV will be just as frustrating. I have it pre-ordered and am hoping for a better experience.
Thanks in advance.
