@gotrekfabian: You very wrong on this. Free to Play Online games DO require Gold on the Xbox while they do not on PS4....well except for Destiny 2 which does require PS+ even though it is now free to play.
In fact, the ONLY online game that did not require Gold to play was Final Fantasy XI Online on the 360 - and that was only because it also required a monthly subscription.
@thebadjesus: Well I'd rather they take the time to get it right instead of rushing and have a repeat of Forza 5. I think this is something Phil learned from Mattrick's colossal flubs with the One launch and games.
Me I'm still planning on getting a Series X either at launch or shortly afterwards, but need to upgrade either my TV or projector (that will cost me, LOL!) to take full advantage of it. I'm too invested in the Xbox ecosytem (and they have more games I enjoy than SONY does TBQH) to change horses now, though I do own all the previous Playstation consoles (just not as heavily invested in them, mostly the few exclusives I do enjoy as well as the old lady's favorites). Between the free series X upgrades, Game Pass, and nearly all my previous collection being playable on it really is an easy sale for me...more a question of when than if.
@batman90: And what does any of that incoherent rambling have to do with your earlier responses? And I think you are suffering from either selective memory loss or merely spouting BS as both PS2 and OG Xbox games did in fact have loading screens...even on "skateboard" games, just some games developed better ways to hide them. Just about any disc based game had loading screens, not to mention there was much less data being transmitted to the system so they didn't take as long, even with lower bus speeds on those systems.
You complain about the storage on the Series X, then say you are going to get a PS5? WTF? You do realize they are doing the same thing in terms of storage, and actually offering you LESS storage on those "memory cards" than those Microsoft has...and will likely cost more as they are more proprietary than what Microsoft has! You're a special kind of ...., aren't you?
It is up to you if you want to spend likely twice the money on a PC to get similar performance as a Series X console (and still not have that 5 TB NVMe PCIe storage in it you think the Series X should have shipped with, LOL!). But Xbox's days are far from numbered, they are finally getting it right and will be a player in the business for quite some time now.
@batman90: Oh I read it just fine (lame way to deflect our own stupid statement), you just lack the knowledge of how much these cards cost. These are in no way cheap "memory cards" like seem to think they are, they are high end SSDs with high bandwidth. Those cards cost well over $100 each for a 1 TB card (even at cost), so as I said adding 5TB as you suggest would DOUBLE the price of the console. You really want to pay near $1000 for a console?
In a few years the price will come down and there will be larger options. Until then use a standard hard drive or external SSD to hold your games on until you are ready to play them, then transfer them over to the Series X drive. At least Microsoft was aware this could be an issue and is working on a good compression engine that will alleviate some of the concerns, and this was something that was lacking last generation (resulting in the bloat of games). I'm not looking forward to it myself, having over 1000 games and demos installed on my One already (but at least all them will run from an external on the Series X). But that is part of the growing pains of a new generation.
@batman90: LMFAO, and DOUBLE the cost of the console? Sure way to kill the console out of the gate. You haven't a clue on the actual cost of these now, do you?
@thebadjesus: They said they just entered early development of the game, so I think it is doubtful we'll see a Forza game this year. And it wouldn't surprise me if they took the same tactic that 343 is doing with Halo - make just one for the entire console life with regular updates. It would be harder to do that with Horizon though due to the different locations, but easily pulled off with Forza Motorsports since it is all circuit based racing.
@keiser69: Dude I am telling you how it is going to be, not how you think it should be. I am tying to inform you since you seem too lazy to inform yourself on the subject (can't even bother to read my informative post telling you all you need to know, dismissing it as "diatribe" because he doesn't like the news). Rare has said as I quoted them (and will repeat again for emphasis):
The key purpose of Custom Servers is to allow creative players the opportunity to use our sandbox to create unique experiences for their communities. They are not intended to be used as a PvE server, hence the removal of ability to earn gold and rep.
You miss the point of these, these are not for people to play in safe spaces and play the game away from others. They are for special events (contests, competitions and races) and for people to create unique content for viewing - role-playing and instructional/tutorial videos. It is not so you can play the game with just your friends and progress through the game in safety - that is never going to happen. And for all we know they may not even be able to be rented by the general public and might be limited to partners and content creator club members - too early to tell on that one as Rare hasn't even started testing them yet.
As I said, all you need to do to confirm this is go to the Sea of Thieves website and forum where Rare has the official announcements and details (and where I clipped that quote from)...or use Google or whatever your preferred web search engine is. Or you can continue to wallow in your own ignorance, I don't care at this point. I've given you the low down on what is coming, accept it.
@keiser69: And since I am pretty confident you won't go to the Sea of Thieves site to check it yourself, here is a direct quote from their announcement regarding custom servers:
The key purpose of Custom Servers is to allow creative players the opportunity to use our sandbox to create unique experiences for their communities. They are not intended to be used as a PvE server, hence the removal of ability to earn gold and rep.
@keiser69: Whatever dude, all you have to do is go to the Sea of Thieves forum and you will see everything I told you was correct - they have a stickied thread just for this topic along with their announcement. No progression, no commendations, probably (hopefully) no achievements and likely will cost money. As I have said, these were NEVER meant for what you and others want... a way to escape the main game loop to farm/play in safety. Rare has stated repeatedly that farming/PvE only servers "don't sit right" with them. As I said their main purpose is for content creators and competitions which are not easily accomplished in the main game since there is no easy way to gather multiple crews for such events. And to what purpose would it do me to lie about such a thing that can easily be checked if you only took the time to do it yourself? I was simply trying to inform you of what you obviously were not aware of to temper your expectations.
Sure there are a group of people that want to play without threats of PvP but guess what? This isn't the game for them. You are basically asking for a new game. It is quite possible to accomplish things in a short time, you just have to gauge your expectations for such a short session. I often play a short session solo before I go into work each morning, usually about 1 hour or less. Pretty simple to complete a few islands and turn in to up my totals. Some people just need to accept that games aren't designed for every person, which is why there are so many different kinds of them on the market.
