@50_Ft_Kingie: And they are fanboys or idiots, likely both. If PC games can afford to make they games compatible with the myriad of options available on computers, I think they can handle 2 Xbox iterations that only differ in RAM and GPU computing power without one "holding back the other" as they like to claim.

@sausage_n_eggs: Man you need to grow up, FYI I have been married for many years so you are just further showing how clueless you are - about gaming and life in general. And way to further show your lack of knowledge as I only need to reference the 2nd iteration of the PS3 which used EMULATION as opposed to the PS2 Emotion Chip to accomplish BC on that version of the console....before they removed it under the false guise of "saving money". Anyone who fell for that line of bull is an idiot or clueless fanboy as the work was already done, was software based/emulation, thus saved no money by excluding it.

I answered your question, you got snotty about it so I responded in kind. I have little tolerance for ignorance.

@bryanweary: I was surprised that they had that info out and did so quickly this morning. Lots of good stuff they put out. I was really surprised by EA Play being included in Game Pass Ultimate coming, and of course it was right after my membership renewed last month for the year. I hope I get a refund or better yet add it onto my GPU subscription.

@sausage_n_eggs: Then maybe you should leave the discussion for those of us more knowledgable in such matters instead of muddying the waters with your ignorant nonsense. Spencer has made it quite clear that BC is something they will be pushing from here on out, Series S console does nothing to change that.

@id0ntkn0w7: Yet they NEVER sold on at a 40% loss which is what it would be if they matched the Series S price. They sell them at a loss but not a huge loss like you are stating. Sure way to go out of business.

@kutraz: There is only 2 major differences between the S and the X - a weaker GPU and 6GB less RAM. There will be no big issue with them being able to downscale the X version to run on the S, especially when it is outputting at half the resolution but maintaining the fps - especially given what is done to account for all the PC variations (and this only has 2 major variables in the system, everything else is equal). There is no limitation or big "fiasco" in the making, stop making up drama.

@kutraz: Hmmm, yet PCs have not had this same issue for some reason with MANY more options/configurations than 2? Your argument doesn't hold water.

@bryanweary: Yesterday we only had the rumored specs, which did turn out to be correct. Microsoft did a dump this morning with those specs, price on Series X, confirmed it would launch on the same date as the Series S, announced EA Play being included in Game Pass Ultimate this fall and announced the pre-order date (9/22/20).

@sausage_n_eggs: Well it isn't BC that they cut to get the price down. It is more the smaller SSD (saving about $100 retail), the lack of a BluRay drive, 6GB less RAM, and lower powered GPU. As it runs at a lower resolution it doesn't need as powerful of a GPU but more than capable of running games in emulation (aka BC).

No need to state what should be obvious.

@sausage_n_eggs: Yes, just like the Series X is. They will all play the same games.
