I wonder if Sega did get bought by Microsoft would MIcrosoft bring back any of the dead IP's like Shinobi, Vectorman, Comix Zone, etc.
Shinobi isn't quite dead as they did release a game early this generation. But you have a point, some I'd like to see be revived: Panzer Dragoon (both the mainline and Saga), Crazy Taxi (not that mobile crap), Enemy Zero, Condemned, Ecco the Dolphin, Afterburner and Hang-On. I really think Sega missed an opportunity years ago by not making a new Seaman game for the Kinect as that was the perfect format for such a game.
@Ultramarinus: I stand by everything I said, you lack understanding...period. See below regarding Minecraft mods and how Microsoft continues to support them...and coincidently has not stepped in to monetize them for themselves.
@Tanix24: You are referring to Microsoft of old....they've had 2 different CEOs since then as well as changeups in the Xbox division, finally getting someone in there that understands the gaming business as well as gamers.
@cugabuh: I think one of the things a lot of people are overlooking is the acquisition if the iD Tech engine as well. This could be huge for a lot of FPSs and even a licensing cash cow to compete with the Unreal Engine as Bethesda pretty much kept that in house after they bought iD.
@rpawloski2458: Bungie WAS a big player back then - huge on Mac and making big inroads into PC gaming later with such titles as Myth and ONI. Just because you are too young to remember those glory days does not change the facts.
That being said they did become more of a household name thanks to Halo and Microsoft's marketing. But don't pretend they weren't one of the top developers in the 90's. Big enough that Gates drew the ire of Steve Jobs when they acquired Bungie when Apple was starting to make a gaming push on their systems.
@dhracox: Also Bethesda games have been pulled only to resurface on the service a few months later. Fallout 4 was one, DOOM also I believe (but not 100% sure on that one).
@Ultramarinus: Except for the FACT they were the first to allow mods in Skyrim and Fallout on consoles, whereas SONY at first banned them from their console. Seems you lack understanding about Microsoft as well as games.
@owizeisme1: Now who's delusional? They have but one established franchise (that has had but 3 iterations, the first only on PC) and one new one coming that is untested (but realistically will do well, barring a big SNAFU). Hardly worth that sort of money, probably worth less than the Minecraft franchise to be quite honest.
