@esqueejy: LOL, keep drinking that Kool-Aid that SONY is feeding you. You also probably believe that line of bull that they aren't having production issues. The salt from your tears is all so refreshing!
@Starshine_M2A2: And actually it is not a bad game either, just not what a lot of people wanted. I personally enjoy it and was interested in it from the time it was announced, it was definitely something that appealed to me and I knew it wasn't going to be the end of mainline Fallout games like the Chicken Littles of the internet whined it would be. Would have preferred a proper MMO style game but I have been getting more into the survival style games of late.
@dani3po: Don't forget Jade Empire, also from Bioware. There was also Morrowind, Pirates of the Caribbean (the Bethesda one, not the Disney ones) and Fable. Also the X-men games of that time fit the bill.
@theultimatetrut: Except they wouldn't be helping them out, they'd be profiting off of them. What sweeter revenge can you get against a competitor than have them line your pockets with profits? Let them pay $60-$70 for a game, while those of us with Game Pass will play them upon release with our subscription at no additional cost.
Microsoft keeping the Bethesda publishing arm pretty much confirms that many of the established games that were multi-platform will remain as such. But I can totally see new and lesser IPs becoming exclusive to Xbox/PC, including Starfield.
If SONY had made the deal, then every one of the properties would have become exclusive to them, because SONY is still stuck in that old world way of thinking about exclusives- believing the MYTH that exclusives drive console sales when statistics say otherwise.
@gaeandilth: LOL, like one game can ruin a company the size of Bethesda.
Also I think you need an education as to what a monopoly is, Microsoft is no where near that in terms of gaming (or even their software/OS division at this point). They do not have a dominate stake in the industry, at least not yet.
@esqueejy: I wouldn't be surprised if a whole lot of the launch editions of the PS5 just ended up "dead" based on the scuttlebutt coming from some developers regarding overheating issues. Probably will need that water to cool it and make it functional - so his comment may not be too far off the mark by being literal, LOL!
@sladakrobot: Doesn't explain how they CONTINUED to put it on new systems beyond the existing contracts AFTER they bought Mojang. Or explain how they also shipped Minecraft Dungeons to the competing PS4 and Switch when it was never on those before.
I can totally see Microsoft continuing to offer established, big multiplatform games to competing systems (one of the most likely reasons they are keeping the Bethesda publishing arm active, more likely to have SONY agree to have them on their system if they appear to be published by Bethesda instead of having the Xbox Studios name emblazoned on a startup screen. But new and some of the AA offerings I can totally see becoming exclusive to Xbox and PC, I even expect Starfield to be one of these (especially given the rumors that SONY was seeking some sort of exclusivity for that title as well). Either way Microsoft wins.
@bdrtfm: The Mojang money they likely have already earned back the lion's share of as that has been many years now - heck they probably got that back on merchandising alone. And Nadella has already said they may not be done yet with acquisitions so I don't think he is going hindering a good deal from happening.
