I love team games like Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead. You need mics in those. Other games, you may as well be mute and no one will throw a fit. This is why I don't even play those other competitive games. From the ones you listed, only L4D makes talking essential. http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/guide/71/xbox-360-buyers-guide-headsets Check here for a rundown of non standard mic offerings. I use the GameCom X30 and it's great if you only use a wireless controller as wired ones make a feedback loop.
I'm gonna have to disagree with orb. Too Human is not for a new gamer. The first level may be gotten through with just the action on screen, but once you're in the second dungeon, get ready for pain if you haven't learned the game mechanics. At its core, it's a deep RPG with stats. Left for Dead is a great choice if you want to co-op. At its core, a simple shooter having auto-scalable challenge within the world. The depth comes with random chance boss monsters and strategy Fable 2 is perfect. A fun RPG that's newbie friendly and should be easy because the first one was easy (much to my dismay as I enjoy deep RPGs like Too Human and Fallout) I rented Assissn's Creed. A sandbox stealth game with easy yet satisfying combat and superlative sense of place concerning its game world. For sports, check out Blitz: The League II, a mature football game. They go all out since they don't have the NFL license. I hope this helped. :)
You will find matches every night. The community in it and Left 4 Dead are the best I've met especially for newbies. When searching for servers, press "Y" once or twice to filter by green ping. The pop may increase once the update rolls out which is said to decrease the glitches and add 10-18 new maps and class-based weaponry.
Left 4 Dead has dedicated servers and a great community capitalizing on the campy horror theme and versus teamwork of Valve's offering. Plus, shooting the fast zombies never gets old 8) Some people shouldn't mind jumping ship. :)
I didn't bother with the Gears sequel because of glitches like these in the first one; the community didn't help, unfortunately. If this is true, I'm glad I spent money on something like Left 4 Dead instead. I knew competitive multilayer horror was the theme here, but after losing faith in Epic games, I see now that the horror actually refers to the glitched net code and childishness of the gears community.
Too Human. Replay value is through the roof. No magic but it has rifles and swords. Advance in melee damage and you get a combo meter which is this games equivalent to manna.
I couldn't agree more TC. I rented this game about a month after release and although the combat was over the top quite fun is short bursts, I could not stand the extreme baditude tone and barren world design. Okami was a more grown up title, and from Capcom of all developers. There is such a thing as too much anime in your characters and unfortunately NMH stepped far over this line.
