...and had mouse and keyboard support, how many people, specifically pc gamers, would buy it? Let me stress, this hypothetical console would have hardware superior to the highest end pcs today which, along with optimistion, would make the graphics years ahead of what the pc could achieve!

I don't think people understand what you are proposing here. PC developers make games for the lowest commond denominator. In most cases that means they make games for current gen consoles. If you have a PC you can get better textures, res, aliasing and fps. But that's very different than having a game built from the ground up to take advantage of the latest hardware.

If a game console was released for $1,000 it would have seriously wicked specs. CPU would be an i7 based Quad core CPU at 3.8 - 4.2 Ghz, a next gen Radeon that replaces the HD 6990, let' scall it the Radeon HD 7990, 16 GB of shared system RAM and a 2 terabyte hard drive.

With those specs it would be an absolute monster. It would be a considerable step beyond the PS4 and Xbox 720. The games would make moded Crysis and GTA 4 look ugly by comparison.

People just say oh PC is better but that's not true. Because no one will develop games for PC with such a high lowest common denominator. It's going to take the PC maybe another 6 - 10 years to achieve the graphics that this proposed uber console could do right now.

All this "PC wins plus it can do your homework" talk is just ignorance.

Thank you :D There is at least one person that sorta gets wat im trying to say...although i doubt it would take quite as long as 6-10years for the pc to catch up...think of how much weaker graphics cards where 6-10 years ago! That said the graphics on this thing would be mindblowing, and pc gamers would rejoice because the power of their machines may actually be used instead of playing the latest muliplat at >1080p at x32aa with over 100fps..... This console would be a massive fianical risk and i doubt any companys would have the balls to realise it...espically with the mostly negative responses from the more hardcore gamers on this site....probably their target audience!

After reading the whole thread, I see the TC has decided to walk away. I guess even he realizes now that this topic wasn't very well thought out.

Oh i have gone nowhere...the majority of the negative comments of this thread consist of "but i use my pc for other things, paying $1000 for a dedicated gaming machine is far too expensive" which i already countered in the first page with "Well i can get a pc for a third of that price that would do non gaming tasks just as well. Anyone who spends over $1000 on a computer is gonna be using it for gaming or perhaps their work demands it. You would, well at least i wouldnt, spend over $1000 on a pc just to do homework or office work ^^" which basically has been ignored so far. I dont think this is beyond the realms of possiblity, the most unlikely thing would be having good 1st and 3rd party support as the companys would be taking a massive risk with a console aimed only at the most hardcore gamers. The actual hardware of the console i think could be doable. If for example they used slightly beyond the highest end gpu out now (which if the xbox 360 had have been released a few months earlier it would have been..." and a very powerful processer with good ram. Ofcourse cooling this monster would be a problem but lets assume they have a few clever individuals that came up with some innovative and efficient ways to cool it. Just think of how good this machine would look at 1080p.....optimised for all that power.....i really dont think those of you with money would not get it...just because you cant do your homework on it ^^ .... Ofcourse pcs would eventually catch up and surpass even this console, and i would say this console would actually accelerate that as the market for high end cards would be greater....but this console wud be the exclusive king for at least 2 years i would say considering there is not enough computers that could even dream of playing those games to warrant a slightly stripped down port!

Well first of all if your computer can handle it download the mod that allows you to have more units in a battle at the same time, the default 150? is kinda crap! The bigger the better :D The way i play it, which is pretty successful in the hardest difficulty consists of nord huscals + rhodok sharpshooters + swadian knights, I would position the sharpshooters at the top of the nearest hill with the huscals at the bottom of the hill, and let them come to us! I would then take my swadian knights, with me in the lead :D...around to the right to charge into the side of the enemy lines!

And for the record i would never spend this much on a console, but i thought with the amount of threads dedicated to graphics on system wars, the lure of a machine with this power would be irresistable for some....

I would ignore it. The reason why gaming PCs are around that price is because they're also used for the office, homework, web browsing, video editing, there's too much functions for me to list.

You use a PC for much more than entertainment.

gamer620
Amazing how people constantly ignore this.

True but if someone buys a computer with the latest i7 processor and gtx 590 sli for example its primary use is obviously gaming. A pc of this spec is really not much better at *most* non gaming related tasks than a much more modest rig
