If you go to Treyarch's website, and search their jobs area. You will see a couple of job descriptions that mention Call of Duty. What is interesting is that there is a quote that follows "Working experience with First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter genres (console or PC). And if you're a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!" I am not stating any facts here, because this could just be a generic description for COD games and used again after COD3, but if this is current and up to date COD5 may go back to WWII. I've heard that rumor in a couple of places. It's disheartening...I really like the jump to modern warfare.

If you know your live ID and password, I'm pretty sure you can recover your tag. In the future, I would store your profile on a memory card instead of the hard drive.

I totally agree. If this game made you sit and watch the cutscenes, I would never buy another.
