@Atzenkiller: I think that banning a console's MAC address would be the ideal solution. Having a phone # associated can achieve a similar feat but gives them access to more info about the player and allows for things like targeted ads. In the end it's all about $$$.
@thecupidstunts: I get where you're coming from. I didn't mean to offend anyone but was just being logical. I get that people have different priorities but a necessity (e.g. food, clothing, shelter) should take priority over a hobby such as gaming any day.
@noodles227: I understand that my statement was generalized but I still stand by my point. They are trying to fix an aspect of these games that people have complained about for over a decade. There will be growing pains but eventually they will find something that sticks. I also have a budget and if something was implemented in a videogame that affected said budget, then I would simply cut that item out of my life. Nobody needs to play modern warfare to survive.
@thecupidstunts: Admittedly, my statement was generalized but you get my overall point. If you purchased a PS4 (current MSRP $299), MW2 (MSRP $70) for a hobby, then you are not in the worst financial situation out there. Either that you are living beyond your means. Financial situations can change fairly quickly but that was not my point.
@ironhorse89: I understand that people come from all sorts of financial backgrounds but when you insult specific individuals, you need to be prepared for the fact that they may insult you back (using any means necessary). I don't even know this man (or his financial situation) but his silence speaks volumes. If he had simply tried to convey his message without insult, then we would not be having this conversation.
@Dawg9000: I do not appreciate online verbal assault. Clearly you are on the lower end of the bell curve, both in terms of intelligence and income. I would work on ways of improving your earning/mental capacity otherwise you will find problems with gaming to be the least of your concerns in the future.
@Atzenkiller: I see, I should have been more specific. I was referring to the USA where phone contracts are commonplace. I can also see why this policy could be problematic in countries where contracts are not best option for phone calls. Perhaps an alternate strategy could be attempted in regions outside the US. I will say that I still find it admirable that they are trying to crack down on toxic online behavior. It's a really tricky subject that perhaps needs for R&D before a suitable solution is found.
