How did Lair flop? Who hyped it due to gameplay?

I think if Lair was on 360 it would've been hyped to a degree.... But nowhere near as much as PS3 fans hyped it, because we've already got plenty of other games and WE wouldn't be the ones touting it's graphics as pwning Gears of War and we wouldn't be the ones hyping it because we're desperate for more good games.

My main hyped games are hyped on what the developer has done previously. Halo 3? Well Halo is awesome and Bungie are awesome. Mass Effect? Dude, Bioware made KOTOR? Gimme gimme gimme.

There's also the odd game which I hype just because it sounds like an awesome concept and gets lots of good previews, such as Left 4 Dead.

I agree lemmings wouldn't do the same hyping in their current position. But if 360 just came out last November, and had the same lineup they had after launch, and Lair was added, lems would have done the same thing. Undoubtedly.

And are the graphics not looking as good or better than Gears? Aren't all the reviews saying this game sounds and looks beautiful? Isn't the bad score all due to the controls?

In SW hype is based 90% of the time from graphics and nothing else.

Exactly. THus, why Lair was hyped. And did it deliver on why it was hyped? YES. So is that a flop? Not in the "hype" since.

It will be little surprise to me that this thread will stay dead and lack anyone admitting that gameplay is far from being factored in when hyping.

We all know that if Lair was on 360, controls aside, lems would have been hyping it just as bad as cows due to the graphics, story, and audio.

Umm the developer, previews of the game, if it is a sequal or not. Those are the biggest I would say.Wasdie

I've never seen spin quite like this in my life. Only a PS3 fan could spin "We just got a massive flop" as "Now our flop is out of the way our console will pwn!"

No, its like, "Even with the flop....." Don't act like Lair is the end-all for PS3. The game looks awesome and will be fairly popular. There's a ton of games coming in the near future and even bigger games next year. You can focus on one game all you want. Beat Lair to death, it doesn't matter. Allof the other titles are still here. What about Warhawk, I thought lems were all over the place yelling, "Flopage, flophawk, warflop." What happened? And what about HS? Now that IGN gave it a 8.0, there's nearly zero lems on it anymore.
