False Alarm Everyone

Sorry but I'll have to put a hold on that review this week. My professors just stuck me with a few papers due this friday so I'll have to put it off for a while. Sorry everyone for the false alarm.

I've Been Inspired!

Hello loyal readers! The muses have once again graced me with inspiration. That's right another review coming up soon. Just a few minor things to work out. For one thing I've been having some computer issues lately that I'll have resolved soon hopefully.

Second, I have a superbowl Party to go to today, we call it a superbowl party but in reality it's just going to be me and my friends hanging out and working on our costumes for AnimeSTL this march and watching anime. YAY! So much better then watching sports.

And finally I actually want to write this next review out first. Usually I just write it all down in one sitting and post it write away, but this ones going to be a long one so I want to spend some time on it. Well that's it for now. So I'll try to get it up sometime this week. But you know me and my laziness so no promises.

I Owe You Guys An Apology

I'm sorry, I know I promised to write another review weeks ago. Feel free to throw all the rotten vegetables at me that you want.

So I'm about a month late with this and unfortunately I can't blame it on evil voodoo shamans and angry villagers. No this ones all on me and my lazy tendencies.

You guys need to know one thing, I am an incredibly lazy college student who is easily distracted by things, particularly shiny objects. (Note: There was a ten minute gap between this paragraph and the next due to me being distracted by a shiny pen on my desk).

I will not do something unless I have to or unless I'm motivated to do it (which rarely happens). This entire break I have been playing Persona 3 and 4 (an awesome game series by the way) and really haven't done anything except play them. That's not much of an excuse but hey what can you do?

So, once again I apologize to those of you who I may of disappointed (however unlikely that may be).

I can't say for sure when I'll write another review but I'll try to get myself motivated sometime soon. Keyword there 'try'. So that's all for now. See you later my loyal fans.

I've Risen From The Grave

Hello folks, long time no see!:D

*cricket noises in the background*

I know I know. I've been gone for a long time, but I have an excuse. I died right after I wrote my last review and thanks to some potent voodoo I have now risen from the grave as a semi-mindless zombie who craves human flesh..... and smoothies.

SMOOTHIES!!!

Ok so I'm not really a zombie, but thanks to college I sure fell like one.

I've barely had enough time to sleep let alone read manga or write reviews. Calculus alone has beaten the will to live right out of me. I just now got some free time to write this.

But honestly was anybody out there really dissapointed? I mean, from what I could tell only about five people were reading my reviews. Oh, well.

So I just wanted to let you guys know that I'll try to write a few reviews this coming week, my winter break starts soon so I'll have plenty of free time. Though I do want to spend some time playing video games and catching up with a bunch of series.

Well that's all for now, I'll write something again sometime next week. Unless the voodoo shaman who rose me from the grave decides to send me back or I'm chased out of the village by an angry mob.

*grumbles* Stupid angry mobs.

Well see you later.

Review Number Two-Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

And here's the second review that I promised you guys.

The second review of the day is:

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

So who doesn't love crossovers? Everybody likes it when two of their favorite series combine into one enjoyable experience. Well Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles is just that, one giant crossover.

If you're familiar with Cardcaptor Sakura then you'll recognize the two main characters. Syaoran Lee and Sakura Kinomoto. The two in this series aren't the same ones from CCS though. In this story, Sakura is the princess of the Clow Kingdom and Syaoran is the son of an archaeologist and is Sakura's childhood friend.

The kingdom is attacked one day by mysterious creatures and as a result, Sakura's memories are transformed into feathers and they are scattered across different world's. These feathers hold great powers, you can think of them like the Clow Cards from CCS. Without the feathers Sakura will die.

So Syaoran is sent to the dimensional witch, Yuko, with and unconscious Sakura. For those of you who don't know, the witch is the same character from the series xxxHolic. There he meets two others, Kurogane the disgruntled ninja who wants to return to his home and the magician Fay D. Flourite who wants to escape from his world. Yuko gives them the ability to travel to different worlds with the help of the white creature named Mokona Modoki.

But before they can begin their journey, they each must pay a price to the witch in the form of the object they cherish most. For Kurogane it's his sword, for Fay it's his tatoo on his back which allows him to use magic, and for Syaoran it's Sakura's memories of him. In other words, even if Sakura regains all of her feathers and memories, she will never be able to remember Syaoran.

With all of the costs payed they begin their journey over dozens of different worlds searching for the feathers. While at the same time, two mysterious figures who seek to gain Sakura's feathers, watch over them.

So like I said, this is one big massive crossover for Clamp series. Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHolic, Chobits, Magic Knight Rayearth. You'll find dozens of recognizable characters as the main characters cross between worlds. If you're a fan of Clamp series then you'll enjoy seeing the massive crossovers.

It's not just this story alone though, the series is closely tied to xxxHolic. If you read xxxHolic then you'll find many ties to Tsubasa. The story is very light hearted at first but gets darker as time goes on, especially if you read the manga.

Now the anime was aired on the Japanese equivalent of PBS. So it's kind of more kid friendly then the manga. But that doesn't stop it from having a great story with amazing characters. But like I've been saying, the main draw of the entire series is the crossovers.

I give Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles a 4 out of 5.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

So here's the second one I promised you guys. I actually haven't read the Tsubasa manga yet but I've heard great things about it. I started by watching the first twenty episodes of the anime. But there aren't that many differences between the two at that point in the story.

As for Katekyo, I've been wanting to review that one for a while. I finished reading the entire thing in a day and a half.

So once again, I apologize for the delay. With that said I must leave to do my homework.:x

See you later.

First Review Katekyo Hitman Reborn

Sorry once a Kagain my fans. This is the review that was supposed to put up last week. I gave my reasons for the delay and I'm not going to dwell on it anymore. Without further ado, here's the review:

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

So we all know that loser kid in school. The one who gets bad grades, isn't good at sports and is the social outcast. That pretty much sums up Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada. The loser of his school who's got the crush on a girl he thinks he doesn't have a chance with.

Tsuna's grades are so bad that his mother hires a home tutor for him from a flyer she finds. To Tsuna's suprise, his new home tutor is actually a baby named Reborn.:|

Not only is Reborn a baby, but he's also the greatest hitman in the mafia. :o And it gets better. He's there to train Tsuna to become the next boss of the Vongola Family, the greatest crime family in the mafia.

In order to train Tsuna, Reborn shoots Tsuna with the specially made Vongola bullet called the Dying Will Bullet. When shot with the bullet, the person comes backs to life to accomplish any regrets they had when dying. When shot the person will jump out of their clothes (still in their underwear you perverts) and run around in a blind rage until they accomplish whatever they were regretting when they died.

In addition to Tsuna and Reborn, the series includes a wide variety of random characters. For example, Tsuna's two best friends Gokureda and Yamaoto. Gokureda is Tsuna's self-proclaimed right hand man. He was a member of the mafia before hand and came to Japan to help Tsuna to become the next boss of the Vongola family. He's arsenal consists of sticks of dynamite that he hides on his body.

Yamamoto is a student obsessed with baseball. He fights with Tsuna and Reborn while at the same time, thinking that everything involved in the mafia is just a kids game he's playing with Reborn. Throughout the entire series he never really realizes that Reborn is actually a mafia member.

These are just a couple of the weird characters. There's plenty of more funny individuals to keep you entertained. The first part of the series is the introductions. In fact, these introductions last over sixty chapters. It takes a long time before the story gets rolling.

But at the same time the introductions are necessary. They give Tsuna motivation to fight in the major battles in the later chapters.

The series has an average length. About 212 chapters with new ones coming out every week and an anime adaptation that's reached over 100 episodes.

This series is incredibly amusing. The first part is a lot like American cartoons, a random story with every new chapter. But eventually the stories start getting more serious when the major story arcs begin. If you're patient enough to read through the first sixty or so chapters then you should really enjoy the series.

I give Katekyo Hitman Reborn a 5 out of 5.

Sorry Sorry Sorry!

I'm sorry my loyal fans. I know that I said I'd have my review up on sunday but I've been incredibly busy this week. I had a cold over the weekend and I spent a majority of my timed knocked out, thanks to the magical drug Nyquil. When I was actually conscious I had to finish the mountain load of school work I had to do. I was also watching the series finale of Code Geass.

Once the weekend ended I was swamped with cl*asses. So I'm sorry to my loyal fans who've been awaiting my review. I promise on all that is holy that I will write the review I was supposed to write last week this friday. And to make up for the wait, I'll include a second review.

So once again I apologize for the delay. I'm feeling much better now so there will be no more delays. See all of you soon.

Delayed Review

I just wanted to let you guys know that I won't be putting up my weekly review today. I'm postponing it for three reasons:

  1. I'm sick with a cold.:(
  2. I haven't slept all week.
  3. I have a ton of stuff I have to do for school this weekend.:x

I'll probably write it tomorrow, Sunday at the latest. Sorry to my loyal fans out there. See you later.

It's Time for Another Review!!!

That's right my loyal fans. It's time for another one of duskmon12's spine tingling reviews!!! :D

So you read my clues and you made your guesses and unfortunately nobody won this week. Maybe I'm making my clues to hard. I'll try to make next weeks a little bit easier.

So I bet all of you are sitting on the edge of your seats waiting to finally find out what series I've chosen for this week. Well your wait is almost over. This week's review is......(drum roll please)

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

What elementary school student doesn't wish they had magical powers? You have to wish that when you were a kid you always wanted to turn that annoying kid into something you could step on.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha revolves around the main character Nanoha Takamachi. Your typical third grader who talks to ferrets and fights magical creatures.

One day when walking home from school she comes across an injured ferret named Yuno. Yuno, to her suprise, is able to talk and reveals to her that he is actually a wizard from another world. On his home world he was an archaeologist who uncovered a set of 23 dagerous magical objects known as the Jewel Seeds.

The seeds possess an enormous amount of magical power and have the power to cause massive destruction. When the Jewel Seeds are released into Nanoha's world while Yuno is trying to recapture them, they start to wreak havoc on the town. Yuno, who is injured from his attempt to seal the seeds, requests that Nanoha collect the Jewel Seeds in his place. He gives her a magical jewel known as Raising Heart that transforms into a magical staff and allows her to access her magical abilities.

As the story progresses, Nanoha faces off against another young magical girl named Fate Testarossa and her familar the dog-woman named Arf who are also trying to collect the Jewel Seeds for their own reasons. The mystery as to who Fate really is and her purpose for collecting the seeds plagues Nanoha as she struggles to collect the remaining seeds before her rival can.

So that's the first season of the show in a nutshell. The story may sound familiar to you. A young elementary school girl finds out she has magical powers from a small talking animal who gives her a mission of collecting a set of dangerous magical objects. (cough*Cardcaptor Sakura*cough). It may sound like a rip off but it's really not.

The first few episodes are incredibly similar to CCS but after about the fifth episode, with the arrival of Fate and Arf, the plot starts to revolve more around Fate then the Jewel Seeds.

Now you may have noticed how I said 'season' before. This series has multiple seasons. The first one is known as Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and consists of thirteen episodes. Two sequels were created known as Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's which takes place roughly six months after the end of MGLN and also consists of thirteen episodes.

In this season, Fate has joined up with Nanoha and the two of them along with the other main characters must fight together against knights known as the Wolkenritter who are stealing the magic of wizards throughout different worlds.

The final incarnation is called Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers. It takes place ten years after the end of MGLNA's and it has a total of 26 episodes. Nanoha and Fate have both grown into adults and are working on another planet for an agency known as the Time-Space Administration Bureau which is an interdimensional security force. It introduces four new main characters in addition to the already existing characters from the previous two seasons.

There are two manga counterparts to the series. The first is also names Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's, and it is thirteen chapters of additional scenes from the second season which deal more with the individual characters.

The second manga is named after the third season. This takes place six years after the second season and four years before the third. It's basically just a prologue to the story in the third season.

You don't really have to read any of the manga if you want to understand the story. There more like extras for the fans of the series.

Now let's get to my personal opinion. I really did enjoy this series. When I started watching it I originally thought that it was going to have a plot similar to CCS. Luckily for me, I was wrong. Every time I assumed something would happend I was proven wrong. It's not a rip off of anything even though the plot is not completely original.

If you are an anime fan then you'll have already seen most of these plots used in other series but that shouldn't ruin the series for you.

Another aspect of the series that I enjoy is that each character is given their own individual weapon and ability. Fate for example, possesses a staff like Nanoha's named Bardiche that has a lightning attribute and transforms into a scythe. Now I know that's not terribly original, but hey I like any series that introduces awesome weapons like the ones here.

I do have one gripe with this series though. For one thing, by the third season most of the main characters are ignored, only making brief appearances in one or two episodes. That's to be expected from minor characters, but main characters from the first two season like Yuno and Arf only appear about once during the third season. Other characters like Nanoha's family and two best friends aren't shown at all or even mentioned for that matter.

Despite all of my expectations of this just being another stereotypical magical girl series, I was pleasantly suprised to find out that I was wrong. The story isn't completely original but manages to set itself apart from others out there. That combined with a large cast of characters with amazing abilities and weapons and you have yourself a pretty good show.

I give Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

a 4 out of 5.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's right guys, I decided to review a magical girl series.:P Why you ask? Well why not?

I love all anime/manga with only a few exceptions. That includes series like Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon. I grew up watching shows like Dragonball z, Sailor Moon, and Cardcaptors. I don't understand why anime should be gender based. I'm a guy but I like these kinds of shows. It annoys me when people hassle you for liking those kinds of things.

Anyways moving on, you may have noticed that I gave this series a score at the end of my review. I'm going to be doing that from now on. If you're curious, all of the series I've reivewed up until I would have given 5 out of 5's if had been using the scoring system at the time.

A lot of people have been complaining about the TV.com updates lately (myself included) well I'm gonna stop that now. They really don't care about what we have to say so I'm only wasting time and energy whining about it.

So let's get talking about some facts from my life. I'm thinking about changing my major from Computer Science to Journalism. I'm considering writing reviews for a living. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback from my fans out there so I'm thinking, "Hey, maybe I could give this a shot."

So time for yet another hint of the week. I'll try to make this one a little easier for you guys. This week's first clue is:

Will

As for last weeks clues, I mentioned them all in the review. The one who gives Nanoha her mission is a ferret named Yuno. Heart, comes from the name of Nanoha's weapon "Raising Heart'. And Lyrical, well it's in the title.

So what did you guys think? Give me some feedback please I really want to hear your opinions.

Well that's all for today, I'll see you guys later.:D
