So PS3 games and Blu-Rays only. =( Then again, I could import some Japanese PS1 games and brush up on my Japanese.

Still, considering 160GB consoles are going for $500, and all the cool things about this limited edition bundle, I guess it's a fair trade off. I'll be keeping my PS2 anyways, so the only real bummer is no remote play for PSP, no upscaling, and no convenience of virtual memory cards.

Hey folks, a quick question regarding the Limited Edition Playstation 3 160GB Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete Console with the Cloud Black logo. I'm purchasing one tomorrow/today from someone locally, BNIB, and had a couple of questions regarding the region protection.

I understand that PS3 games are region-free, and we share the same Blu-Ray region with Japan, so PS3 games and Blu-Rays won't be an issue. I believe Japan's DVD region is also different from North America's, so I won't be able to play DVDs purchased in North America. It's not PS2 backwards compatible, but the backwards compatibility with PS1 games also region locked to J-NTSC? Because that will be a real bummer if so =S

So should I just be expecting to play PS3 games and Blu-Rays with this imported console?

Then again, I'm purchasing for $400CAD, which is an absolute steal. =P Anyways, any help would be great!

You can easily download any demo on the Japanese PSN site. Simply make a Japanese PSN account with a Japanese address (make one up, or use Sony's headquarters for fun) and download away.

They are gonna keep coming no matter what...I try to copy and paste answers or repeat myself so the question is answered and we move on. Although it does gettign anoyying whatever.

Why not just make it a sticky then?

Actually, over half of these topics can be made into stickys - the forum would be so much more organized

There are tons of quality JRPGs for the PSP unlimited in Japan. The DS is limited and most of the RPGs are kiddy and have bad gameplay+graphics.
If you know Japanese, the PSP is definitely for you. If you don't know it, and you want quantity instead of quality (for the most part), get the DSi.

ROK3RO

As I explained earlier in this thread, there is a lingering misconception that the RPGs on the DS are more quantity then quality. This is completely untrue, unless the only measure of "quality" is graphics. The DS surpassed the PSP in both quantity and quality games. This is not a subjective statment, but a statement based on collective critical rankings of RPG games on both the DS and PSP, according to aggregate ranking sites like GameRankings and Metacritic. Critical rankings aren't perfect, but they're much more accurate then people who own one console or the other and boast about it's superiority

Many of the earlier Resident Evil games have become much more difficult to find (ie. the original PS releases), or much more expensive (ie. once again, the original PS releases). Since the TC has a PS2 and a PS3, we shouldn't assume that TC has any other systems and star recommending games from other consoles.

Since the original Playstation RE games (RE, RE2, RE3:N) are both difficult to find and expensive, I'd recommend starting with PS2 games. The perfect starting point would be Resident Evil: The Essentials, a compilation of Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, and Resident Evil: Outbreak. I purchased my copy for a very reasonable $20 (all figures Canadian) at EB Games.

If you want to continue playing RE games after that, then you can always hunt down the original three Resident Evil games. Otherwise, it may be time to start thinking about getting a Wii (with a GameCube controller) or GameCube, and playing through the ports/remakes (RE, RE2, RE3, REC:V, RE0, and RE4 are available on GameCube; RE4 is available on Wii)

Wait till after e3 if you want a psp. They may change the system and the old systems will be dead. Their thinking of going to Blu-Ray.RazerBlade13

It's very difficult to read your post without laughing at the ridicule.

ds i , it has an already big library and still growing,

psp doesnt have a big library that doesnt consist of ports of other platform games,

and the ones that are psp made, are ported to ps2 shortly after wards , so either way its your decision on what youd like

mariokart64fan

A large library doesn't mean much if you're not interested in those games. TC, I suggest you visit GameRankings, Metacritic, or even GameSpot right here and go through the games available on both the DS and the PSP. Take note of the games you'd be interested in, and make a decision based on that. Sure, both the DS and PSP have multimedia features, but at the end of the day, its the games that really matter.

Only a handful of PSP games are ported to the PS2 after - and they're almost always terrible ports. You're also assuming that TC has a PS2, which may or may not be true, and thus not apply to the TC.

Japan gets all the good jrpg

leonklauser

That was the most pointless comment ever made.

It's like saying Canada gets all the good Canadian beer.

No seriously they do get all the good jrpg games, there are many good rpgs that haven't been release outside japan. Go search for them and you will be quite impress.

I don't think you understand my point. You're saying Japan gets all the good Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs). Clearly, that's because they originate from Japan.

I'm well aware and "impress" by Japanese RPG releases, having imported games from Play-Asia.

Okay first SONY HAS NOT CONFIRMED THIS. Purely rumors on the new PSP. While it might coem out it's not confirmed till E3. 2nd while the nub stick might nto be that good you get use to it. I rather they imporve on the stick they have over having 2 of them. It would be nice to have 2 but I don't think it's necessary. DarkMaster7991

+1

Everyone is freaking out about things like no UMD drive and no second analog stick, when the entire notion of a new PSP is still just a rumour. Relax folks, or you won't have the energy to freak out if it does happen later on. :P
