If I buy one of those mobile internet USB pen stick things will I be able to use it for xbox live? and if I can how would it work

I am looking at one which has unlimited usage and a 5mb connection speed

This will not work. The xbox 360 checks that the wireless internet access to see if you are connected via a BRIDGE. If you connect it to a laptop and share your connectiong in the laptop that will work but be warned the speed may be slower than you think.

What... happens when it updates? When it logs onto Live will it just take over? I ask because this will be the first update i have encountered aside from ones triggered by games.Bruce_McGivern

When you sign into Live you will be prompted for an update sorta like Windows Automatic updates.

nope. think about it, bill gates has said that hd-dvd and bluray are both the last of a dying breed, that digital distribution is the next wave. why would they jump into a dying market two years later? if bluray were to win, which is doubtful, it would be years from now. years from now the xbox 720 or what ever will be out, and bill gates is planning for disks to be obsolete. he is planning on cutting out the middle man.rdo

Bill Gates says a lot of things.  Probably half of the things he says come true while the others get thrown out the window like the time he said "We will never make a 32-bit operating system, but I'll always love IBM"or "640K ought to be enough for anybody".  Never take any CEOs word as is because they always change it.
