@regulas: more than likely a very small drop in price by then, maybe down to $550 from 3rd party manufacturers. even after the 900s came out 700s were still rather expensive for quite some time.
@mkeezay22: i don't know about that...yet. my 8GB 290X(that cost me $340 ~1 year after release) can still do 1440p at 60fps pretty easy with everything but AA maxed in almost every modern game.
i would hope the next big step from AMD would pretty easily close the gap from 1440 to 2160. waiting another year+ to purchase would be too much for most people looking to upgrade though.
@jerger_gs: he explains that the Zotac OC 980 ti was used because they wanted to get as close to a Titan X comparison as possible but didn't have one available. i would much rather have seen the comparison to an average 980 ti though than the Titan X or this Zotac version.
@bignick217: i wouldn't count against it until more benchmarks are out with newer games and some DX12 titles. plus, more and more developers are making more and more vram demanding games all the time. by the end of this year you may need something like this to keep up 1080p 75+fps at ultra settings in a lot of titles.
we've been telling people to hold off on buying a new GPU until the Pascal line was released for months now and they have actually come out even cheaper than most anticipated. i imagine those who didn't listen or just couldn't wait must be a tad bit disappointed now.
hopefully the 1070 has a good amount of VRAM also. will likely be my next card if so.
awesome news. getting through New Game+ but havent even started Hearts of Stone storyline yet. when Far Harbor's done i'll have a good new bit to come back to.
