For me it would have to be either the demise of Sega as a console manufacturer as the Dreamcast finally put the final nail into a grey square shaped coffin

Rekunta

Worst, that was the BEST! Segas a horrible gaming company, they've disapointed me for years. Glad to see Sonic's demise as well. Worst gaming moment had to be when I purchased a Game Cube and thought Nintendo was on its way out with Sega, thank god for the Wii!

Were you even around during SEGA's heyday? This has got to be a joke post.

To an extent he has a point. Sega's recent line up has been shocking. And it's best games have been made by companies that they have acquired recently.

But in their heyday they made a lot of good stuff, quality titles and their platform games (not just Sonic) were renowned for being fun and hard.

But I understand what he's saying about the Gamecube as well, I thought Nintendo was on the way out. Then we got the Wii, and look what that's done for Nintendo's gaming faithful................................

If a movie was to be turned into a game the game should be made like a sequel and not as a game version of the movie.

I mean, I've already seen the movie, why would I want to play it? I already know what happens!

Lucasarts did the right thing with The Force Unleashed by making it part of the canon rather than basing it on one of the chapters. If the Bourne game had been more like a continuation of Bourne's story it wouldn't have had the constraints of the film and as such would have been much better.

Even Goldeneye on the N64 had so many levels and things that never featured int he movie, it was only loosely based on the movie in general. This realistically is the formula for good movie based games.

But, to answer the original question for me

Karas (not really a movie, but would still be awesome)

There's not really a lot these days that would work....

Uk owners have taken note that to get Nariko they need to order the game through Play.com and to get Kratos they need the next issue of Official Playstation magazine available on Sept 30th right?

I think my worst moment in gaming history would be unification of Squaresoft and Enix. Altou I didn't realize it until later, that event meant the death of the best RPG series I ever played, and turning it into a money-sucking project of "instant hit" overrated crappy games for gay audience.

Farewell, Final Fantasy...

FFX was a huge disappointment, FFX-2 was a gay fashion-show-wannabe meant only to suck some extra money out of audience, and FFXII finally sealed the series' fate for good.

*sigh*

wigan_gamer

I agree since FFIX (the best FF IMO) it has been downhill for me too, FFX was ok, X-2 was meh, but FFXII was a disgrace and one of the worsed games I have played.

Seems strange that the games that the media are loving at the moment the general public are not.

Grand Theft Auto 4, Final Fantasy XII, Halo 3. All loved by the media but vilified by the fans.

-I agree with you on the demise of SEGA, TC. It still hurts to this day, and gaming's just not the same without them. Sure they still put out games, but they are a mere shadow of what once was.

-Nintendo's new direction. They have completely lost touch with who they are, and have turned their back on the interests of true loyal fans for useless gimmicky garbage "games" for grandma and grandpa. It's quite painful to watch the self-destruction of one of the greatest gaming companies ever. They are now a toy company, not a game company. But hey, what do they care? The money's rolling in.

-The Halo sequels. They weren't even close to the greatness of the original, and complete disappointments.

Rekunta

I recently read a games magazine that had an article on Nintendo's ending love affair with the hardcore gamer.

It made a good point that seeing as Nintendo started making trading cards then it is no more liable to keep producing 'Hardcore' games than it is to start creating trading cards all over again.

It does break my heart to watch Nintendo basically turning themself into what amounts to a gadget and gifts section of Argos. But considering their past troubles you can barely blame them for wanting to earn some money.

But, as with all popular things like this, so much trash gets released that you cannot find the decent games as there surely isn't enough of them. And with Wii Music it seems that Nintendo will soon be releasing this 'trash' themselves.

A shame considering their immense history and the triple A titles they were renowned for.

2009 to be the year they decide to rework all their franchises? Will it be too little too late for the hardcore gamer?

According to CVG during production the 360 failiure rates were 68% and not enough was done to address these issues before launch.

Ouch.

I know PS3s get hot, but they have more than adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.

Not even remotely similar.

Every electronic device has it's problems, but Sony has made sure they've used top quality components and given adequate venting to avoid the solder over-heating problems that the 360 had.

There is a rumor of an apprent yellow light of death. But I haven't had any problems with my machine and I got mine on launch day.

World of Warcraft (To be honest this game has been the cause of some of the best and worst experiences in my life)

Metal Gear Solid 3 (Bet you thought I was going to put 4, but 3 is by far the pinnacle of the series. Great story, amazing looks and a teary ending that doesn't feel contrived)

ICO (Possibly the single most beautiful game ever made)

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Easily the best Zelda game ever)

Super Mario World (The greatest platform game ever)

Final Fantasy X (Made me realise how much I love turn based RPGs. It got me into playing some of the older games)

Megaman (Killing Dr. Wily with the bubble gun was the single hardest thing I've ever done in a game. And I was the one who did it between me and my brother)

Tomb Raider (Even my mum played it)

Street Fighter II (First game I owned on the SNES)

Guitar Hero (Made my family realise that games are fun. Not just to be played in the bedroom)

I have to admit Eternal Sonata looks amazing. Can't wait for the PS3 version.

Uncharted I don't agree with. Played it in SD and HD and yes it is a good looking game. But the difference in resolution is negligible for a start and there is a lack of anti-aliasing made all the more apparent in HD. All those jaggies make me think sparks are gonna fly if I get near anything. I'd go for Metal Gear Solid 4 instead, even if the Mei Ling character model looks like a deformed Barbie doll.

Gears of War is indeed a fine looking game. Makes you realise that you don't need huge amounts of texture memory to make things look incredible.

I'd like to put Race Driver: GRID in there as well. This game just makes my jaw drop every time I see it.

FPS games don't do it for me. There's plenty I'd like to get, but if I could only pick one I'd go for LBP.

That is unless it turns out to be crap. Which it wont of course.
