SuperWife to the rescue!!
by erikgus on Comments
My wife fixed the hot tub without even touching it. She said "Did you put the little magnet on?" Which prompted me to move the magnet that needs to be touching the metal contact to get the heat pump going, and it started right up. I am a moron.
Still can't seem to win a bid for God of War. I am going to the store today to see if they have a used copy at EB. The new EB is right next to my buddies' new Quiznos. So I am thinking it looks like a good day for a sandwhich.
I am almost on vacation. I am going to pick out trees for the landscaper today, finish the deck and hottub today and tomorrow, and then its vacation time baby.
I put some pictures up, go to my page, Beer isn't Just for Breakfast Anymore or a direct link House Remodel
quit outbidding me you #@!%*$s

I want to buy god of war off ebay to save some dough. I wish people would quit sniping me at the end of the auction so that I can get it for around $32 bucks and not have to go to EB and spend $40 or $45.
Jeff made a good point about holiday weddings. I have two this weekend, and I am going from "really wanting to go" to really wanting to be at my buddies cabin on the lake or at home in my new backyard trying to finish it before the 4th. It also made me realize that another friend planned a wedding on labor day weekend in california. Common people, how about picking weekends that don't already have millions of travlers. Or weekends where I already wouldn't have plans. The weddings will be fun, but more of pain in the ass then they would be on a normal weekend.
On top of that, got the hot tub all wired up, filled up, and then the heat wouldn't turn on. And it was too dark by that time to see what I had done wrong. Damn.
All this work means still no gaming for me. and still no D2 tonight, cause I will be trying to figure out whats wrong with the tub. And I will probably remain a RAD RACER on GS for a while, which isn't a bad title...

long time no post and SW JQ#2 & #3
by erikgus on Comments
life and gamespot...Lately, I think 4 days without a post in my journal is pretty good. It means I'm not quite as addicted to GS as I thought. It also means I am still sore from working on my house and landscaping for about 20 hours this weekend. With the help of my parents, wife, some landscapers, and a few buddies, I've got the front yard all edged, the trees all trimmed, a few trees removed, a few trees transplanted, the barkdust all spread, the back yard all cleared, the hot tub moved, the deck steps ripped out, new topsoil all spread, the old path pavers all stacked up to get rid of, as well as the garage half cleaned out. Now once I get the steps rebuilt and the hot tub wired up, they can put in a new flagstone path, new landscaping and trees, grass in the backyard, and prepare the ground for a pond in the corner. Then when I get back from 2 weddings this weekend, it will be time for beer gardens on the 3rd, 4th of july, my wifes birthday the 5th, my birthday the 6th, and 2 weeks off including enjoying my new yard, finishing a major cleaning of the house, and a week long trip to new orleans, followed by another wedding. Needless to say, you may not see me on here for more than 20 min a few times until mid July. Maybe by then I will actually have a few games played. Now that I am thinking about it, I will probably move a cooler,TV, and game system out onto the deck with the BBQ and hot tub and not come inside for 2 or 3 days...
as for gaming...I just don't have time. it sucks. Adelphia supposdly came and fixed the problem with my internet, but I've been so busy, I haven't tested out the "dropping connection" from games problem enough. tonight maybe, tomorrow for sure. I know last time I played it worked, but playing 2 games is not enough of a test. (of course, I got 2nd and 1st in rumble pit and wished I had time to keep playing cause I was smokin fools left and right....)
as for reading...SW Jedi Quest #2:Trail of the Jedi was another good young adult novel. The 2nd story is Anakin and Obi-Wan off on a training mission, but with the increasing problems in the galaxy, they are hunted by bounty hunters and learn of a new evil. New evils are always exciting, and the book includes a lot of action and near death experiences. So I finished that and On top of that, I'm half way through #3: the Dangerous Games and that book has Anakin and Obi-Wan, again with the same jedi teams, on another planet to oversee the galactic games. Anakin is going to pod-race, and the book is getting more exciting as I read it.
next couple weeks....I plan to finally finish Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card, get the new Harry Potter book right after I get back from vacation (and finish it in 2-3 days), and finish the rest of the jedi quest series. So expect reviews of the SW to get shorter and shorter (not that they were being read anyways...) and hopefully less GS and more actual gaming.
GTA blamed again?, SW:JQ#1, God of War, & Conker
by erikgus on Comments
check out this happy horses***. http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/22/news_6128036.html This article says that GTA was linked to a 15 year old in Japan killing his parents. But then goes on to explain that the kid didn't blame the game at all, but rather some of his friends said that he was an avid gamer, including linking the GTA series. So What? He probably played Super Smash Bros Melee too, and you beat up the other characters in that game, as well as tons of other games. Plus I bet he sees violence on TV. And he probably has read about it. I guess its time to stick all the children in a sensory deprevation box so they never do anything bad again...
I finished another Jedi Quest Book from the Star Wars Series, JQ #1 The Way of the Apprentice. Very good book showing more of the flaws that will eventually cause Anakin to turn to the dark side, while showing how talented and ambitous he really is. Anakin and 3 other padawans, along with Obi-Wan and 3 other Jedi-Knights are all dispatched to another (yes, another) planet that is tearing itself apart. Needless to say, they are all attacked, they split up, and Anakin helps save the day again. The great part of this book is where you see hatred rise again in Anakin towards one of the other padawans because they are both two of the best padawans in the Jedi Order. Jelousy, Fear, Hatred....lead to the dark side.
And as for video games, I played a little more SSBM on the cube. Serious button mashing, but addictive. I really want to try this multiplayer. Anyone want to come over for some Smash Bros? And I am getting God of War today damit. Even if I have to buy it off ebay and wait a week for it. And I will probably get Conker too, but this is waning because I keep getting bumped off my internet connection, and the main reason for buying this would be multiplayer games...
Bud Light Presents Real Men of Genius
by erikgus on Comments
mr. foot long hot dog inventor
bud light presents real american heroes
(real american heroes)
today we salute you, mr. foot long hot dog inventor
(mr. foot long hot dog inventor)
when conventional wisdom said no one could make a hot dog longer than six inches, you dared to dream
(dared to dream)
you knew the limitations of a regular sized hot dog bun, and you ignored them
(can't stop me now)
you made a ten inch weiner, and people cheered
(oh!)
but you weren't satisfied. you said, "wait, i think i can still give you two more inches."
(gotta want it)
and so the foot long was born. so crack open an ice cold bud light mr. hot dog hero, because you gave every one of us our fondest wish: a bigger weiner.
(thank you thank you thank you!)
They switched from Real American Heroes to Real Men of Genius, but whatever they call these adds, they are funny. I heard a really good one today, and now that I am searching this site I found, I can't find the one I am looking for. So I posted my favorite. The good one I heard today was the Mr. Backyard Bug Zapper Inventor, so tell me if you know a place that has the lyrics for this one.
Anniversary was a success
by erikgus on Comments
I had my 4th anniversary yesterday, and I think I did pretty well, even without buying diamonds or anything. My wife and I bought new phones, so I got something we needed and a present all in one, without having to spend money on both. Then I brought her flowers when she was getting her nails done, so I think I really did good since all the girls in the salon were ooohhhing and aahhhing. And then we went to Jakes Seafood restaruant in Portland for Dinner, and hung out there for a couple hours. Couple beers, a nice bottle of Shiraz, some steelhead with shrimp, some crab tortelinni, vinegarette salads, desert that was a chocolate box fillled with berries, cream, and rasberry sauce, and $100 later we had one of the best meals we've had this year. Top that off with a little $*%#!, and I would say I survived another anniversary, and had a pretty good day to boot.
As for this weekend, it is one of the few i don't have a wedding to go to. but with my anniversary, missing a bachelor party cause of that and fathers day and work and another party to go to, I'm not short of places I need to be and plans that are already made for me. Work all week, busy every weekend, no wonder my yard looks like s***, and never can finish any video games...!
Also finished another SW book. SW: Jedi Quest. This book is kind of a prequel to the Jedi Quest series centered around the path that leads Anakin and Obi Wan into the clone wars, and Anakins eventual turn to the dark side. The story is very good, and confronts Anakin with slavery again, and the chance to break up a slave trade. Obi-Wan comes face to face with Siri, who used to be a Jedi his age. These books basically keep showing how Anakins past is too much for him to handle, and how basically he was too old to begin Jedi training, just as Yoda said. There is also one big cruical plot point about Anakin, so SPOILER...
.....dont read if you plan to read the book highlight to read (Anakin commits his first kill, by murdering the head slave trader.)
Batman Begins was great
by erikgus on Comments
I wasn't planning on seeing Batman Begins on opening night, but there we were playing pool and having a beer, and one of my friends said he was going to get tickets. It was a late showing, but that's good because just like Revenge of the Sith, that means I could sacrifice a little sleep for a showing that wasn't full of talkers and kids. The movie was good, with lots of action, no "comicy" type superhuman strength and unbelievable plots. And especially no batsuits with nipples. (Although, they did a good job of making sure that Katie Holmes was caught in a breezy wind a time or too...) You see that Batman is not superman and really relies on his training and gadgets in order to survive. This movie is way more like the first Batman movie then any of the other sequels.
The movie didn't quite follow the path of the other movies, but since this was supposed to be before all the other movies, it didn't seem like they changed anything without some kind of benefit from the change. They do some explaining about the batcave and Bruce's double life, about alfred, about all the bat-gadgets, as well as some really good action scenes between Christian Bale and Liam Neeson, who trained Bruce Wayne. There are also 2 villians in the movie, as well as a mob boss and numerous thugs, and a nice surprise at the end. I heard some talk before the movie about the acting not being that good, but overall I wasn't disgusted by anyones acting job, and with a huge cast, there has to got to be at least one or two actors that everyone would like. Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Rutger Hauer, Cillian Murphy, Micheal Kaine, Tom Wilkenson, and others on top of the main characters I mentioned above. There are also a lot of scenes with actual bats, which they make look pretty cool. Overall, great summer movie, and probably one of the best I will see all year.

Bill Murray rocks.
I'm not sure what made me think of that movie line just a second ago, but that line and so many more of his just make me smile thinking about them.
"You want more mysterious? I'll just try and think, "Where the hell's the whiskey?"
"...Cinderella story, about 455 yards away, hes gonna use a 2 iron...ITS IN THE HOLE!"
"Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort?" And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." "So I got that goin' for me, which is nice."
"Human Sacrafice, Cats and Dogs, living together, Mass Hysteria!"
"I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean "bad"?"
"Back off man. I'm a scientist."
"Janine, someone with your qualifications would have no trouble finding a top-flight job in either the food service or housekeeping industries."
As for why I actually got on here...Got dropped from another ranked game of Halo 2 last night. Seeing as that is the 2nd day of getting dropped from games on Live, and I also dropped from Diablo 2 the last couple times, I get the feeling its not just my xbox and computer, but rather my internet connection. That's just bloody wonderful, becuase I wouldn't know where to begin to fix it. I got all addicted to a working fast connection, that now I don't know what to do when its not working properly. Well, last night what I did was open up my mail with some games I bought off ebay, and play Super Smash Bros Melee (I finally got it) and Silent Hill 2. If Super Smash Bros isn't the most confusing button mashing game right out of the box that I have ever played, then slap my ass and call me sally. :) As for Silent Hill 2, I think I like this game, but it definately deserved an award of some kind for slowest beginning ever back in 2001, cause I played for at least 30 min, and have only seen one enemy and one other character... BUT AT LEAST THERE IS NO LAG OR DROPPING OF MY CONNECTION!!!
More SW...and I stink at video games...

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the force.
So, I skimmed a few more SW books, realizing I had already read them. Funny thing about most of these books is that I either really like them, or they are least good enough that I recognize some of the plot lines just from skimming them.
- That quote above is from the YA (young adult) version of the Phantom Menace. I've already read the Novel format, so I only skimmed this book, and with some color photos and a quick version of the book, its not bad.
- The next book in the series is Rougue Planet, which is basically Anakin's first journey with Obi-Wan, and includes an assasination attempt on Anakin, and the investigation of a planet which makes ships intuned to the pilot (ships that are almost living beings in themselves and die without their pilot) that are faster than any ship in the galaxy. OF course Anakin being the stud podracer that he is gets the fastest ship and is the best even at age 11 or 12. Pretty good book. This brings me to the Jedi Quest Series, which begins the stories of Anakin and Obi-Wan instead of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon like the JA series.
As for stuff people here actually want to read...I suck at video games. Played Diablo 2 for a while Sunday. One character got erased on battle.net cause I guess I didn't put in 2 hours with it...And then a new character froze up on me, which has happened a few times to me since I started on D2 again. Luckily you still save your level and equipment some how, but if you happened to have something on the ground, you get screwed.
But D2 isn't the only thing I had problems with. I also suck at Halo 2. Everyone I play with finds all this time to play, and are all up to around level 20 or higher. And I still am a lowly 9 or something. That combined with some lag this weekend, made it very hard to kill people. Nothing like the feeling of wacking someone in the back of the head or sniping them in the face, and then finding out that actually didn't happen and getting killed cause the person had already moved and their connection or your connection s**ks. I got booted from 3 games sunday due to what I assume is problems with my xbox.
On top of that, I am still stuck at chapter 2.3 on Res. Evil 4. Two paths, either a big group of villagers including 2 chainsaw psychopath chicks, or a big Gigantic beast. Either way I choose every time i start the section over, I get killed. I haven't broken a nintendo controller in a long time, but If I can't pass that part today, It just may happen, cause I really like this game and want to play more of it, without having to start over and conserve more shotgun ammo.
Mabye I'll just stick to Hearts and solitare and poker. I won the last hearts game I played on the comp, and I won the last poker tourney i played on XBL. I guess some days are just better than others. Makes me happy I spent saturday watching movies with my wife instead of playing vids. And that I had a BBQ to go to Sunday night so I could stop getting pissed at Halo 2 sniper bullets that seemed to find their mark, but in fact were hitting nothing but thin air....
