@Dannystaples14 @ernelson1976 I'm most eager to see exclusives, because that's what's going to make me choose between these two consoles. Nothing at either conference so far has convinced me to go one way or another. We're going to see some cool shit.
@bledsoe45sbc @ernelson1976 It's too late in the dev cycle to match features. There's a little wiggle room, but not much. These consoles are launching in six months or so.
@Dannystaples14 @ernelson1976 It was Sony's real showcase, and it's at best a second-tier game. Sony will have more at E3, I'm sure. But there wasn't much more emphasis on games at Sony's conference, despite what gamers keep saying. MS showed a few games, Sony showed a few more, but neither conference was game-centric in a way that should please gamers.
@LindBergh2007 @ernelson1976 I don't think that's exactly what happened. I didn't get the sense they weren't ready to reveal details, just that they weren't ready to do so in the context of controversy. I think we would probably still be getting this same slow burn of information up until E3 (that's what most companies do), but because a few of their employees screwed up, they had to improvise. And they did so badly. But that's just an interpretation based on what we've seen. It could certainly have been better.
@ManatuBeard @ernelson1976 @Aries139 I had no idea there was a Quantum Break TV series in the works. Cool. Of course, you're still talking out your ass--there's no reason it couldn't be coordinated. Unless, of course, you have some insider knowledge about the game and television development schedule. Which I'm pretty sure you don't.
Still, your other points are still silly. COD, social media ... everything MS covered is popular everywhere. And while the cable integration is going to be regional, it's still interesting enough to showcase.
@LindBergh2007 @ernelson1976 The reveal was teased almost immediately after Sony's announcement of its own launch. I don't think MS was caught off guard, and it doesn't seem like they weren't ready to talk about the console. I think they were surprised that the gaming media was so willing to spread rumors without confirmation, but they probably should have been prepared to offer details in response. Of course, it's only been a few weeks.
@ManatuBeard @ernelson1976 @Aries139 You're talking out your ass. You have no idea how long it will take for the Halo series to get overseas. It would be easy to get it to foreign markets at the same time, if MS wanted to, since they've got a digital distribution system for media right in the console.
I didn't think the reveal was bad--it was pretty much what I was expecting. I want to see more games, but we were told ahead of time that most of that would be at E3--so, no surprise there.
For gamers, yes, it wasn't all that exciting. We heard the specs. Which is fine. But we do want to see games. But I'm not convinced that this has turned out as bad for MS as everyone thinks. Most of the negative rumors had either been disproved or MS has changed tack on them. Sony is eventually going to have to answer the same questions (if the gaming press ever actually starts doing its job and asking them), and gamers are going to get a lot of the same answers.
So bad? No. Disappointing for gamers? Maybe. But we didn't exactly see a lot of games at Sony's presentation either. A few, mostly second tier games. It's hard to get excited over Killzone, no matter how nice it may look.
