@jthotty Bushnell was forced out of Atari in 1978, when the company was at its peak. The company that calls itself Atari today isn't the same company, and hasn't been since 1983.

@THE_DRUGGIE You do realize that Bushnell left Atari fifteen years before the Jaguar was released, right?

What amuses me the most is the piling on Microsoft--when we know precisely nothing about the console. I don't know if Bushnell is right or not, but everyone else making judgments about the new Xbox is hilarious. Can we wait until we know something about the console before getting all bent out of shape?

Right now, everyone is excited for these Kickstarter-funded games. But none of them have come out yet, and none are pulling in what would be considered reasonable amounts for modern game development.

Now, I'm not saying all of these games are going to suck, but I think most of them will. We might get a few that are decent (Tim Shafer's game, for instance). And I wonder--once the first few games emerge from development and suck (or, alternately, don't emerge at all because they didn't have enough money) will the entire Kickstart phenomenon collapse?

I'm hoping not, but I don't see this ending well. The trailer for Jane Jensen's adventure game came out just last week, and it was horrific. I have little confidence these games are going to be what people are expecting.

@dah_master It is free to play. It's a retail game, it just doesn't have a monthly fee.

"The accompanying Defiance TV show, which pledges to change its storyline based on what people get up to in the game..."

Okay, with that the last bit of tepid interest in all this just got flushed down the toilet. Syfy's writing is shaky enough without letting gamers dictate what they're going to do. :/

I was wondering what Telltale was doing with this. The King's Quest series was one of my favorites as a kid, and I'd love to see it revived in some form. I was happy to hear that Telltale was thinking of reviving it. I have less confidence that Activision will do anything worthwhile with the franchise. I'd much rather a small studio take it on.

An update with some more modern graphics, but retaining the overall theme and style of the later games might have been very cool. Now it probably won't happen. Too bad.

The voice doesn't quite match up with the video, but it's not horrible. There are moments of uncanny valley here. Mostly, though, it seems decent enough. I have doubts that we'll see anything quite this advanced in any games. It's good to know they're making some progress.

I think some of these games would be fine with scaled back budgets and reasonable expectations. Doom 4 isn't going to sell like Skyrim, given the saturation of the market with shooters. It's easier in the less-crowded RPG market. Clearly there's an imbalance here that developers haven't adjusted to yet. Too many games, too much crap. Looks like 1983 again.
