the problem is the justification to buy a ps3. there are only a very few games that are exclusive ps3 games that I want to play. i will play all multiplatform stuff on the 360 unless there is some real compelling content on the ps3, which doesn't seem to be the case anywhere yet. i have a ps2, but i dont have room to have surround receiver, wii, 360, and my set top box all hooked up with a ps2 and ps3. so the ps3 must take the place of the ps2.

Pretty sure it depends on what you're looking for. In my opinion, games like Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Fall of Man (and the upcoming Resistance 2), Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Folklore are all great games that everyone should consider. I have difficulty counting any more "must-have" exclusives from 2007 for either the 360 or Wii.

Furthermore, with the likes of MGS4, GT5, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, FFXIII/FFXIII Versus, and PlayStation Home on the way (all scheduled for this year except for FFXIII), I believe the PS3 has by far and away the best 2008 lineup. Last year, I'm pretty sure it was obvious the Xbox 360 - Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect - had the top games, but I don't see that this year at all. Multiplatform games are mostly identical now, anyway (provided they're not made by EA), so that wouldn't be a factor for me.

All of you are forgetting something crucial- the reason the 60GB PS3 was fully b/c with PS2 software is because of the graphics synthesizer chip, which no other model has had since. Sony lost a lot of money on the early 60GB model, primarily BECAUSE of this chip, which turned out to be extraordinarily expensive to implement into the hardware. They needed to cut hardware costs in order to issue a more competitively priced console, and the chip was the first to go. In fact, no PS3 - even the 60GB model - in Europe had the chip; the 60 and 80GB models approached b/c the same way as the Xbox 360, which is software emulation.

If you wanted a cheaper console and Sony was still going to turn a profit, that chip (among other features) needed to go. That's just the way it is. They just cut their production costs in half, but before that, Sony was losing around $200 for every system sold. By cutting the costs, though, combined with the higher sales especially over the holidays, things are looking up. There's also a rumor that b/c may return to either the PS3 or PS4, as SCEJ is supposedly looking for an engineer with that sort of capability. So they're either looking for a cheaper way to bring back full b/c for the PS3, or they're already investigating it with the PS4. The job ad was pretty specific. Sony has also said - specifically to us at PSXE, in fact - that they will continue to "evaluate consumer demand and market trends," and then perhaps release more PS3 models, depending on the territory.

But to say Sony just decided to toss out the chip for the hell of it, at the consumer's expense, is ridiculous. Do you want a $400 console or a $600 console? Take your pick. Obviously, there are a few other features they removed and manufacturing costs have dropped in general, but I'm pretty sure that chip turned out to be far more expensive than Sony bargained for.

[QUOTE="Roris0A"][QUOTE="Coyo7e"][QUOTE="RealDuffi"]

It's a bit funny article.

But in sense, a pornstar is nothing but a worker. It's just entertainment for.. adults. It wouldn't be very different if a cubicle worker told that he liked to play games.

Coyo7e

Except for the people who exalt her. And for what? (refering to her as a goddess?)

Using sex as a way to make money? It is not evil just base. As something of an agnostic I believe that our body's are just vehicles for cell's that need to reproduce. Humans excel at sex, it is one of our most basic instincts (remember that flick?)behind the need to breath, eat and drink. It is the "oldest profession" on film. I have seen a few news story's on Jenna and she is a very bright person, but still just a prostitute (by her own choice). It is really easy to prey on our sexual desire, 10 billion + humans on the planet exist because we are sexual animals. We have survived through plagues, war, and famine, because we have a massively power-full sex drive.

She used her brains to dominate the industry, but its still low brow.

I feel bad for people who let such a simple thing like she likes games as some type validation for their own interest in games.

We are all slaves to our sexual desires, but in the battle to dominate your own mind we should view it for what it is and not exalt it.

lol get a gf dude. Human beings can take control of their lives, including their sex life. Its called taking personal responsibility. and I don't think many people are taking it as a validation for their own interests but more like noticing the similiarity they have with her.. In this society we've all been trained to see the differences in people and put them in groups. if anything this article should bring us closer together as a human race.

as for the article itself, I loved it.

So you watch porn with extremely over weight people? I would not be interested in that. Are people interested in what she says because she is very bright? ( and she really is bright) Or because she is hot as hell? Nothing about that article would bring us closer together as a human race. But I should have not you would not make an actual point when the start of your post consists of a baseless insult.

It does not matter how bright she is because of her profession. She does what everyone does, she just does it for money.

When I refered to it as a basic instinct you should have gotten the point. EVERYONE has sex and has relationships ( good or bad ones).... that was the point. There is no population problem for the fact that some people can not get a gf.

I'm having difficulty understanding your point. ...do you have a problem with my article, or are you trying to prove something else entirely?

I just did an editorial on this very topic-

http://www.psxextreme.com/feature/249.html

Wouldn't mind hearing what people thought about it, actually. It's all in good fun, of course. :)

...whichever system the game is best on. If the game is basically identical across all platforms, I just go for the system that has the controller I prefer.

In the case of The Orange Box, go with either the Xbox 360 or PC. With CoD4, I'd go with the PS3 version, but it doesn't matter too much for that one.

It was definitely a good year, but it did lack in variety - we were drowned in FPS and RTS games. 2008 seems to offer a lot more variety and high quality games across most genres.

UpInFlames

Well, I don't know about that...what about Mass Effect, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War II, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, Rachet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Rock Band, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, etc.?

I won't go so far as to say 2007 was the "best year ever" (1998 and 2001 were arguably better), but I think it's certainly true that we had plenty of great games.

And I'm very hopeful for 2008. Provided they actually hit the release dates, we could be looking at GTAIV, MGS4, DMC4, FFXIII/FF Versus XIII, GT5, and many more...that's a damn fine lineup of potential "AAA" titles right there.

I've heard a lot of people say there weren't a huge number of great games in 2007, but every time I hear it, I can't understand it. Granted, we had to wait until the second half of the year for most of them, but what else is new? That's basically par for the course. I mean, can anyone honestly say they're caught up on ALL the games they wanted to play from last year? I'm not, and nobody I know is; heck, we're all three or four games behind. I don't think the Wii had a good year (all it really had was Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid 3), but all the other platforms did awesome, IMO.

I think I only realized this when we were doing our Game of the Year Awards (http://www.psxextreme.com/feature/241-1.html), though. Outside of a few categories, the decisions were pretty tough. Whenever that happens, we have to assume the year had plenty of fantastic titles, right? The list of "must-play" games from last year is fairly extensive, so don't fool yourselves.

Personally, I thought it was very, very good. :)

I won't be taking review scores seriously from GameSpot anymore, that's for sure. I think it's become more of a joke than anything else...maybe everyone should just use a four-star system like they have for movies, or something. Not that that would fix the problem, but it might not be so crazy. People go nutty over numbers.

I've also heard feedback from 1Up and other sources that the PS3 version looks and plays better. I guess they got that impression from the latest build of the game.

I've always been planning to get DMC4 for the PS3, anyway, but I had assumed the games would be identical. Even if they were, I vastly prefer the PS3 controller for a game like this. But now it seems I'll be getting the best of both worlds...hopefully. You never know until the final product is sitting on the shelf.
