The article states that the growth is due mainly to software and cloud service business. The Xbox division is a very small part of Microsoft so barring some huge sales spikes (like during the Black Friday weekend and Christmas week), it really never has a significant impact on their overall profits, for better or worse.
No, they just hired former Vigil employees. They also said they would bid on the Darksiders IP in this auction, and they probably did, but obviously Nordic put up more money.
I fail to see where there is 'joyous celebration'. The brand is actually making money at the moment, which is a good thing despite overall sales being down from last year.
We're talking about a console at the end of its lifespan remaining a positive revenue generator amidst nearly confirmed rumors of next gen platforms coming at the end of the year. Seems good to me if I was invested in the Xbox brand. Same goes for Playstation at the present time.
You seem to have an axe to grind that I'm just not understanding. On that note, I'm bowing out. Arguing over the relevancy of a sales report is hardly worth 60+ minutes of my time.
I think you're reading too much into it. This is something to keep investors and partners pleased with the state of the brand.
With the next console coming soon, it makes them look good that they are ending on a nice note. If you remember, that was not at all the case with the transition from the original Xbox to the 360.
The only thing I can't understand is why you would release your console a year ahead of your competitors and do absolutely nothing to take advantage of that time. MS practically dragged the 360 out of the factory incomplete and still secured an install base over the first year. Nintendo has done nothing, no games, no advertising...I just don't get it.
Another fool who actually thinks that console gamers are moving or will move to mobile and web-based games. Its scary to think that such big names that are in or around the game industry have such a completely naive view of the audience dynamic.
