For me the statement about a game being "like a movie" is just as insulting as the statement on the other side of that coin. "That film was like a video game." Both statements are dismissive without being substantive and never get to the heart of the matter, the quality of the work, good or bad.
However one chooses to categorize this body of work, I will say simply that the quality is good. The game style works with instead of against the game as is always people's biggest complaint in these types of games. The game structure is tight, well conceived, and well executed. The quality of the acting and storytelling is so high that it serves to demonstrate the need for this level of professional quality in other future projects to come.
Don't ask what it is. Ask if it's good. The answer is yes.
