The opposite of "to bash" is "to praise". If you're complaining about people bashing Apple, the logical conclusion is that you think we should priase them.

You could have made money using ANY comparably poweredlaptop, and your margins would have been higher.

FrozenLiquid

It's true the opposite of bashing is praising. However, there's a third alternative. It's called reasoning.

There's a reason Apple's stuff costs more, and they make no bones about it. And people who buy Apple things know what they're getting into. So it is up to you, good sir, to figure out how Apple is getting customers while selling components at a higher price than its competitors.

As for making money, yeah, I could've made money using any comparably powered laptop... or so the internet theorists would say, who've probably never made a dime in their life. The reason I made money is actually all to do with the Macbook Pro, OS X, OS X exclusive applications, and the OS X community.

Just for the record, in real life (i.e outside forums), it's not all-or-nothing. I'm currently investing in Linux-based servers for the real meaty video/media things I need to do. I'll most likely be purchasing Windows based PCs to make full use of them. However, none of it would have been possible had I not made use of everything my Macbook Pro and the Apple community had to offer.

You see, you become successful when you don't hold prejudices and reason your way to victory and money :)

Don't preach to me about "success", I'm being paid a nicesalary while I sit here and post myself. Had you been specific in the fact that you were developing software specifically for the OS/X family, there wouldn't be nearly as much up for interpretation in your post. You see, when you leave out information, the person disseminating your information has to make logical leaps that could have been avoided had you simply filled-in the blanks.

I'm a software developer (IBM OS/390 mainframe), as well, for a Fortune 100 insurance company. Don'tbe condescending like you'rethe only adult on these boards with a profession. Maybe you should heed your own advice in regards to prejudices and reason?

Again, what's up with the concatenation?

Who said you had to praise them?

I spent about $5000 on my Macbook Pro in 2007. Four years later, I've made more money from doing business with it, and not only that, the workflow is amazing considering the cult of Mac apps, and what's even better, 10.6 has made my computer faster than the original 10.4 OS X.

I could've spent half the money and got a custom built desktop back in '07. Considering what I've done in the last four years, I'm pretty bloody happy that I shelled out for one.

P.S.: Why does this goofy forum keep concatenating words in my sentences?

Hurray for thinking exclusively in black or white!

Excuse me for using a logical conclusion. Maybe you should post this reply to the poster I replied to for being vague and leaving room for interpretation.

It had better. I know Lemmings wouldn't dare besmirch their Xbox, but I find it hard to believe they wouldn't complain when they have to swap out discs on a 10 disc DVD-9game.

Oh cool, another thread in which hip nerds bash Apple products and talk tall stories of the evil Apple corporation.

And here I was worried you guys changed! :P

FrozenLiquid

Why in the world would you praise Apple for charging your DOUBLE OR MORE for a comparable product vs. their competitors? I'd say its the hip nerds that praise Apple.

[QUOTE="Vinegar_Strokes"] sony should be added to that list too. they have been over charging for there electrical goods for decades now. their walkmans were always more expensive and no better than another manufactures and to this day so are their TV's. they to are also hyping 3D like the coming of jesus even though it clear that nobody really cares about it. Vinegar_Strokes

Sony's TVs are at least in the general ball park of their competitors. For instance, a 55" Bravia LCD (1080P, 120Hz) was only about 10% ($1350 vs. $1100)more than a comparable LG at BestBuy.com.

Apple on the other hand, not even close. A laptop comparison, also from bestbuy.com

Apple: 17", I-7 Core processor, 4GB RAM, 750GB HD - $2360

HP: 17.3", I-7 Core processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD - $1100

That's just ridiculous. What're you paying extra for, your OS running on a Unix kernel?

im in the UK and the difference don't seem as much as that. where you getting those price from?

www.BestBuy.com

It should probably be factored in that corporations in the U.S. like to charge their fellow citizens a premium. We pay, what, a 60% premium on the same medications compared to what they pay in Canada?

Hmm they both overhype their products as the next comming of Jesus

Both of them charge prices they shouldn't, especially Apple.

Both are not worth even half that price with the content and (for Apple at least) severe amount of content not there.

Yeah, they're really similar.

I love my MacBook. Find me a better constructed laptop with a 1200p screen. I dare you.

ChubbyGuy40

You do realize that Apple computers use the same off-the-shelf components found in every other computer. They just charge you premium for it and feed the false impression that if something costs more then it must be better quality.

Just like their lame excuse for media players/phones. Besides the screen, total trash.

But Steve Jobs said it was the best so his word must be true!

I have to admit I've owned only one apple product in my life, a 2nd generation iPod (20GB, hard drive). After having to send it in to have the battery replaced twice in the first year (it quit taking a charge), I officially sworeoff Apple products.

Seriously, all this online gaming is making it really hard to enjoy games. people just take advantage of dumb glitches and do cheap manuevers. Its just not fun anymore, hopefully with the upped graphics and nintendo's casual approach the wii-u will be enough for me next gen. Plus they did say they will invest heavily in 3rd party developers.

but something tells me the wii-u will fail. i wish we can somehow get back to the ps1 and N64 days when games were just more fun.

russiaAK47

I really haven't read up on the Wii-U at all. Are they still using the Wiimote? I fired up my Wii the other night after not touching it in months. I borrowed Twilight Princess and after playing for 10 minutes, I remembered why I hadn't touched my Wii in the first place: I hate pointing that damned Wiimote at the screen for prolonged periods of time.

I dont like apple because they milk their customers. Pricey goods with overpriced peripherals to go along with them. It really bugs me. II_Seraphim_II

You've just described the reason, beyond 2 RRODs, that I rid myself of my Xbox.
