[QUOTE="clone01"] There's a plethora of titles that are multiplayer ranging from full-fledged titles to board-game and card game titles that use multiplayer. Shooters are probably the lion's share, but certainly not the only genre.clone01

I really don't play either of those. About the only motivation I've had to sign up for PSN is for DLC and Netflix. I really don't game as much as I used to, especially during summer. I'm taking classes towards an MBA and I've been playing a lot of golf lately.

You asked what the point of multiplayer was. So if you don't care about online, don't sign up.

It was more of a rhetorical question than anything else.

I can actually claim to be unbiased here, as I've had my PS3 since the February after launch and still have not signed up for PSN. I don't play shooters, so what's the point in multiplayer?

I'm still trying to finish New Vegas, but's its soo frustrating when the game locks up your system on an hourly basis. God help me, or Bethesda, if Skyrim is the same way...

Don't get me wrong, I'd probably take part in online play were I to sign up, I just haven't done it.

[QUOTE="tormentos"][QUOTE="ImportBMWRacer"] Its not so simple that one reason covers the reason for their current position this gen. There are many reasons that they are in their current situation, and the Difficulty of their SDK makes it less appealing, and more difficult to design for. The PS2 had WAAAAAY different variables in comparison to the PS3 and current GEN. Had the PS2 been in a similar situation to the PS3 things would have DEFINITELY turned out different. How do you always have such skewed views? ImportBMWRacer
The DC was easy to develop for the PS2 was a nightmare even the PS1 was easy compare to the PS2,difficulty of development wasn't the cause of it,it was the $600 dollar price, developer don't care for difficult or not platform the xbox was easy to code for vs the PS2 and it did not get even half the games the PS2 got.

Like I said there is not just ONE reason, there are many. Your examples are terrible, The DC was an anomally, not sure why it failed so bad, one big key was marketing imo. As for Development, it plays a VERY LARGE role for game developers, look at the amount of indie support 360 has. Also look at the port quality throughout this GEN. I mean cmon, are you even trying? Be serious, dont waste peoples time. Developers DO CARE, how could you even say they dont? Check your facts, type your message, and before hitting submit, just hit the power button on whatever device you are using. thanks ;)

I would counter that the prevailing reason for Xbox being the lead platform for development is because it was out first and thus had an established user base. Developers didn't switch to the orignal Xbox as their lead development console, even though it was easier to program for. They didn't switch because they had already been developing for PS2 which had a much larger userbase at the Xbox's launch.

Believe me, if it were about the ease of writing the code, nobody would write Java in favor of .Net, which I find to be a much easier and effecient language to code.

Is that why the article is titled, "Xbox Live Hacked, user accounts stolen"? Nice try.

No hacking in 2007. How do you like dem apples. hehe.

Game set match for me. My work is done here folks.

Wait a minute you still haven't refuted the fact that a fee does not guarantee that the service cannot be hacked or will not be hacked in the future. That's a logical falacy: correlation doesn't imply causation, meaning that just because an event happens or does not happen and another happens at the same time it doesn't means it happens because of it. The best evidence of that is that not all online services have fees (in fact non does like Live only some MMORPGs maybe) and not all of those services have been hacked. So your reasoning is quite flawed.

Someone who has actually studied statistics...

The fact remains that Nelson is an incredibly biased source and has little credibility considering he is paid by the company he defends in said article.

[QUOTE="OhSnapitz"] "Our good friend Major Nelson sent us an update on the whole Xbox Live / Windows Live ID hacking fiasco that hit the news wire today. According to Major, there is "no evidence of any compromise of the security of the Xbox Live Network or Bungie.net" but there has been a "few isolated incidents where malicious users have been attempting to draw personal information from unsuspecting users". So, the accounts that were seemingly "hacked" were probably due information gained from phishing schemes rather than an actual network hack. We knew those hackers weren't the real deal ... dirty monkeys. Please take the time to get learned and don't give out your account information, because you can never be too cautious. Play safe kids!" Damn those hackers!!! :|AnxietyAttack

LOL, you're going to take the word from a corporate shill that it wasn't hacked, it was phished? Boy, Major Nelson is a reputable source that would always shoot straight, even if was unflattering for the company that EMPLOYS him.

You have been proved wrong so at leastbe mature about it and just accept it.

I'd be a lot more apt to accept Nelson's explanation were he not employed by Microsoft. Sorry, but he has a vested interest in making the statements he made. Meanwhile, the fact remains that thousands of Xbox users had their accounts hijacked, their Live points stolen, their CC information compromised, and fradulent changes made.

Major Nelson is not a compelling source for that reason.

Here's more, from Xbox forums, showing that people experienced fraudulent changes to their CCs due to the Xbox live Hack. This was recent.
