On a side note, which I guess I should have posted on the original, I was kind of wondering if this would just be considered similar to another off shoot design to the DS basis such as the lite, i, or XL. I didn't know if they planned on carrying on the 3DS as the official predecessor to the original DS or just somewhat of middle of the way upgrade. Glad to hear most of you believe they will continue the support, I figured we would get at least 3 more years out of it, just wasn't sure if they planned on carrying it on as long as the original DS. Thanks for the replies though, even the extremely long and sarcastic ones :P

So, I wanted to come to you, the DS and 3DS players and ask how long, in your opinions, do you think the big N will continue supporting it's newest handheld? I have a psp which I enjoy to a certain level, but really would like more out of my handheld gaming machine; I just haven't found a lot of really great titles for my psp that can hold my interest for too long. My wife has a DS lite which I have enjoyed as well, with games like Professor Layton etc. But I played a display 3DS at gamestop a while back with SSF4 and I just thought it was awesome! The graphics were really good, the circle pad controlled great, and I even liked the included cheater feature of mapping specials to the touch screen :P But to get more to my point, with the Vita coming out in Feb. (Dec. in Japan) which has really great graphics and what is shaping to be a pretty stellar launch line-up, do you think Nintendo is going to stick with it's 3DS for a while or do you think they might try to push forward with new hardware in the somewhat near future?
In my opinion, I think they should just stick with the 3DS for a while. It seems like it has the potential and hardware capabilities to stand up against the Vita for quite a while, plus I think it has a bit more in the way of inovation than sony's new handheld. I say that because the 3D functionallity really opens up some new and exciting avenues to explore with games. I know the Vita is innovative as well, with being a dual anologued handheld, exceptional graphics, and capabilities similar to tablets, but I think as far as gaming goes, the 3DS might have the upper hand. That's just my opinion, and I really haven't spent much time with the 3DS, but am thinking of purchasing a new handheld; So what are your opinions on the matter?
Yeah I remember that the legacy box arts were much better. Indeed if you look atmost of the fps games these day's, most of them are just the same.
I tought this ones were great for a legacy fps:
speedfog
Ilove that MoH: Underground cover, it was a great game also. I think fps's were also better back in the day; I mean, I like playing Halo online, and BF3, and my wife and I loved playing black ops together, but I played through the original Medal of Honor and Frontline numerous times. Campaigns in shooters just used to fair better; which is kind of funny because I remember thinking about how storming the beach at Normandy on Frontline was so cool because it was action packed like a movie (and more action packed than any other shooter I had played at the time) but now, all modern shooters seem to play like movies, but not in a good way. I'm just not that into all the set pieces and quick time events I guess, I think it feels a little forced.

I do agree that videogame box arts used to get away with more back in the day
also, you gotta love shadow of the beast's box art
Darkman2007
youre quite right there :P
I doubt covers like that would get made today :P
I totally remember seeing that phalanx box all the time as a kid but never really new what the game was about. I always just saw the old man, who looks a whole lot like the old man character in, what I think was one of those old horror movies in the "House" series; I think possibly the second one. But I digress. Now I see that in small letters it says "The hyper-speed shoot-out in space" which leads me to believe it would play much like gradius with the soundtrack to Deliverance.
As for Ninja Golf, this is my first time laying eyes on it, and completely justifies my starting this post :)
I don't know about you guys, but I'm just not that into the way they do box art for most games now a days. Is it just me or does every game cover look like it was done by the same graphic design college major guy? Some guy on the cover with some kind of blur effect or smoke effect around him? Look at this years Madden, Battelfield, NBA 2k12, and MW3 for examples of what I'm talking about. My point is, the covers of games just use to make the games seem more fun and interesting, in my opinion. I think some of the N64 covers were my favorites, like Banjo Kazooie, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and Jet Force Gemini. And maybe it's because they just used more vibrant, colorful images that just conveyed "fun" a little better. Anyways, what do you guys think? Is the game art better now, or did you prefer the old? Any favorite covers?
