Resident Evil Revelations Demo Impressions.

Sometimes I feel really dumb when it comes to modern gaming. I am now connected to the internet on my 3DS and I just recently downloaded a demo of the latest Resident Evil game. Players that are familiar with Resident Evil 4 and 5 will instantly get into the mechanics, which actually work extremely well on the 3DS. Once you tinker with the settings to get the controls to your liking, it's actually quite simple to pull off. The enemies certainly look menacing and I did get a couple of good scares. The game features some gorgeous visuals with a decent 3D effect. The music is similar to the action-movie quality of Resident Evil 5 and what little voice acting is present is quite good.

There really sin't a whole lot I can say, but I will certainly get this game whenever it is released.

A Child's Play Video Game?

It is said that TikGames is planning on releasing a video game based off of the Child's Play series, probably around the same time as the remake this spring. Personally, this will probably end up falling under a similar fate as the Saw video games. The concept of the films is goofy enough, but having a video game sounds even wierder. We'll just see I suppose...

Christmas!

I will go ahead and get this blog out of the way by saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you guys. Here's to 2012.

Mah Birthday :)

I am now 19 years old. I certainly don't feel any different from when I turned 18. Let me say that this year went by absurdly fast. Well, I am soon to be treated to delicious cake and expensive seafood. Normally I would head to the theatres, but aside from the new Sherlock Holmes movie there really isn't much out there interesting enough for me to see. Besides, I am too busy having fun with the game that my best friend gave me for Christmas/birthday: Mass Effect 2. The combat and missions are definitely much better this time around (which was what made me lose interest in the first game), the story is excellent with great characters, and there are far less technical issues to get in the way. In return, I decided to give him his Christmas present early. I got him Catherine for the PS3. It came with an art book and soundtrack that he let me keep (I've been blasting that soundtrack in my car for the past week). I am looking forward to a great birthday, provided that my work doesn't need me that day :P.

A Few GOTY Awards

GAME OF THE YEAR

Catherine

I choose Catherine for a few reasons. Chances are if I had played a game I anticipated more like Batman: Arkham City (or the game below) before this, there may have still been a posibility that I would have chosen this game any way. This game took me by surprise. I heard of good things and it certainly looked wierd enough for me to try and tackle, but I didn't expect myself to enjoy the game as much as I did. I loved the story, the characters, the soundtrack, the art direction, and the often absurdley difficult gameplay. It's just the kind of game that I can continue to gravitate toward months after first playing (often to try and get better). I may have played few games that came out in 2011, but I think it's safe for me to say that this left the biggest impact. Now I am ready to play some Persona.

MOST ANTICIPATED GAME/PLATFORMER OF THE YEAR

sonic

Sonic Generations was, without a doubt, my most anticipated Sonic game. For the most part, I was not dissapointed. There could have been more to the story and the stage selection, but I had a blast playing this game regardless. Both Sonics play great, it features a nice selection of stages and bosses, and the soundtrack is pure awesome. I waited roughly six months for this game's release, and I felt immensely satisfied when I finally got my pre-order. I highly recommend this to Sonic fans and platform fans in general (fun fact: Modern Seaside Hill is my favorite stage and Planet Wisp is my least favorite).

WORST OF THE YEAR

DNF

Rather self explanitory really, but why not give a brief summary: It simply didn't need to be released the way it was presented. It falters from a technical standpoint, but also from a gameplay and story standpoint. The shooting was decent, but nothing truly spectacular or rewarding, and the puzzles simply weren't fun due to their design and the game's floaty physics. In terms of story, I'm talking more about the writing. There are very few "laugh out loud" moments in this game. Most of the jokes are stale and some are rather tasteless. What's the best thing I can say about this game? Well, the theme song is awesome.

Honoring Dan Green's Loss

I am a little late on this, but sadly the wife of one of the greatest voice actors ever has passed away on November 25th while giving birth to their two children. A moment of silence.....
