Games Ristar (Genesis and Gamegear)

Believe it or not Sonic was almost replaced as Sega's mascot the character that almost dethroned him was Ristar

Ristar only had one game and not because his only games was terrible but because by the time the game was released the gaming world was jumping into the32-bit and 64-bit era. Ristar's game was about the titular charcter as he is on a mission to stop an evil tyrant named Greedy after Ristar's father is capture the leaders of the seven planets of the Valdi system make a plea for a hero and that plea is answer by Ristar himself.

Ristar borrowed from Sonic a bit with three acts per stage and idle animations but what made Ristar different was that Ristar did not put an emphasis on speed but more on platforming as the characters ability was that he could stretch his arms which he would use to get though obstacles. The stages had different backgrouns and music for each act as opposed to sonic which had just one at the time.

Ristar was suppose to be Sega's next mascot allegedly but the game did not sell well because of the focus on 32 and 64 bit gaming. :( Not even enough to generate a sequel so just like that Ristar was gone. :(

The game was well recieved though and was still popular just not enough. Having played the game I can say that it is alot of fun and i wish there couldve been a sequel. :/

Is Ristar completely forgotten like our friend Vectorman no not really because from what ive been told the character made a cameo in sonic and sega all stars racing but as far as having his own game the genesis and gamergear title was his only one.

hey everyone have i mentioned that ive enjoy the little retro revival thing going on lately only about a thousand times. :)

well the point of this blog and statement is to take a trip down memory lane take a look back at a few of the forgotten videogame characters you know the ones that we havent seen since the 16-bit or the begining of the 3d era as in ps1 and such. So my next few blogs will be a mini series which will go for about 5-7 entries or less depending on if i feel like stopping :P as I take a look back at some of these video game characters.

note this list is in no particular order with that lets all go back in time and take a look

Games: Vectorman, Vectorman 2 and vectorman ps2 (cancelled)

Remember when Sega and Nintendo were at each others throats during the 16-bit war. Along with Mario nintendo also had Donkey Kong Country that game was famous for its fun platforming and also had pre rendered 3D graphics I believe that is the term :/

Well on the Genesis Sega or I guess Blue Sky Softwarecountered with Vectorman who was a strange character as he was nothing but a bunch of green balls put together to form a body. Borrowing a bit from sonic with multiple pathways and Megaman with the run and shoot with your arm thing. :) Vectorman had you blasting through 16 levels in the first entry and the game was fun. :) Throughout the levels you could collect temporary weapon upgrades and a few other stuff. the game was also silly with some funny sound effects involving the character and his standstill animations were funny to.

Just like Donkey Kong Country had pre rendered 3D graphics. The game was well recieved and that spawned a sequel which was Vectorman 2

After that Vectorman somewhat dissapeared until there was an announcement of a sequel planned for the ps2. However from what i can remember when the first few screenshots and gameplay footage was released the recepton from the fans was negative mostly because of the character design was completely different and the gameplay was turned into a 3rd person shooter.

since then no one has heard from Vectorman as he has dissapeared into the gaming world. :( He is now anothercharacter in videogame world. :(

Hey everyone gamerguy here and its time for a movie review i wont make this one long ill get straight to the point. I went to see predators on friday with a few friends and I have to say it was pretty good. If you liked the previous predator films then i definetly recommend that you check this one out.

The film starts out with Adrien Brodys character named Royce who is mercenarywaking up in the middle of a freefall as he quickly releases his parachute and lands at what appears to be a tropical jungle. About 5 seconds after a few more of the characters fall from the sky as he meets up with russian spetnaz soldier nikolai played by Oleg Taktarov, IDF sniper Isabelle played by Alice Braga and five more characters and one more later in the movieas they all meet up and try to figure out what is going and how to get out.

I have to say that im glad that the directors did not try to over complicate the plot as they took a plot similarm to the first predator film and used it which is fine because sometimes a sequel will try to go with a crazy and over complicated plot so kudos to the directors atleast for keeping simple this time.

The acting was pretty good for the most part Adrien Brody was fantastic as the mercenary and so were the rest as they played their characters well. My only problem with the characters was that there wasnt that much character development for a few of them particulalry two so in the end you might not end up caring about those two characters when its all said and done.

Now if you were expecting an all out war then you might not enjoy this film though there are some pretty good action scenes those new to the predator series might not like the direction this movie goes in as its more of a strategy and survival type of movie as the characters have to figure out whats going on and learn about their enemies and figure out how to defeat them think like the first rambo movie and predator 1 see how they were set up to be like a strategy movie thats how this movie is so those familiar to the first one will feel right at home with this direction.

Dont worry though there are some good action scenes and they got all the characteristics of the predators correct with their look and their abilities. The movie even gets silly at times with a few one liners and over dramatic line delivery i hope i put that right so yes it does feel like an 80s action moviethat Arnold would probably be in even though hes not in this one:)

For the most part its a good movie i just didnt like the ending that much. I mean its not bad its just the way it was set up. But overall predators is an enjoyable sci-fi action film. I dont want to give to much away so i will stop here but i do recommend predators especially to those who enjoyed the first two and have been longing for a sequel. Those new to the series i still recommedn as the movie will give an explanation about the predators so you wont feel lost if your new to the series.

Hey everyone the current time is 7:33 am here in Chicago anyway just making this update to say that I will be going on vacation Im going downtown for a bible study conference for a few days i will be leaving at 9:30whether ill be online or not im not sure but if not just wanna say see you all in 5-6 days

Well E3 has come and gone and I have to say i liked what nintendo did at this years E3 as a matter of fact i like what a few companies have been doing lately by going old school.

First there was bionic Commando rearmed and then capcom went 8-bit with megaman 9 and 10 after that nintendo went back to basics with New super mario bros wii and now we have sega bringing back sonic to his side scrolling roots and joining in on the fun are kid icarus donkey kong and kirby. I have to say i am enjoying this retro revival thing thats been going on lately i hope to see more

Well id say its been a somewhat exciting e3 and i say somewhat because i havent seen much because of work but i have read articles and seen some trailers so im not to far behind on the e3 news atleast i hope.

Anyway i am so glad to see thatnintendo announced a new kirby and donkey kong country. :) hopefully there will be an f-zero game which would be awesome.

Finally got to see some footage of metal gear solid rising and while it wasnt that much i did like what i saw

i also managed to see some sonic colors footage and so far the game looks promising.

This e3 has had its share of surprises such as ubisoft announcing a micheal jackson game thats pretty cool. :)

well thats all i have to say maybe im much more behind than i think well while i try to catch up what have you guys the Gamespot users liked about e3 so far.
