I wrote this out of utter disguist of the Rolling Stones article. What a piece of junk. They had Elvis at #3 lol, but what really pissed me off was that they had Kurt Cobain above Donny Hathaway and LUTHER FRIGGIN VANDROSS. Now you might like Nirvana better than those artists, but you would have to be on drugs (no pun intended) to think that Kurt Cobain can sing better than Donny Hathaway and Luther Vandross even from a technical aspect. Here are the greatest recording artist (contemporary music)of all time imo.
1. Aretha Franklin
2. Luther Vandross
3. Stevie Wonder
4 Sam Cooke
5. Donnie Hathaway
6. Whitney Houstin
7. Jackie Wilson
8. Gladys Night
9. Michael Jackson
10 Donnie McClurkin
I really tried to make this list so that there wouldnt be those people who dont know about singing say "hey, all you have are black singers", but there were too many singers that started coming to mind that I couldnt do a "politcally correct" list. My mother is the greatest singer of all time imo, I just gotta give a shout out to her. But we all know that the music business is a crazy business, and just because you can sing doesnt mean that you will make it. And remember that there are people who cant sing that have made it!!!!!! The music business needs to be changed.
No Elvis? I don't see what's so funny about him having such amazing vocal control and range. Creatively, he wasn't all too impressive, but vocally, he was a master.
Although there is a difference between a singer and a recording artist. The best singers are the ones best at using their instrument, whereas the best recording artists involve potential songwriting skills, ability with their instrument(s), and whatnot.
I disagree with a few entries on your list, but those are your opinions, so I can't really state otherwise. however, you wouldn't find Donnie McClurkin anywhere near my top 10
Elvis couldnt even mess with Jackie Wilson, actually Jackie Wilson was the original Elvis, with even more range.
