I have a different view from everyone else...ready?

1. Media do not like games because they cant(don't know how) to advertise products to you.

2. Everyone else just thinks whatever the media tells them to think.

let me clarify. If you are spending time playing a video game that is time you are not watching TV with the latest Downy commerical.

SEANMCAD
people are not sheep, going where the media herds them. The world is more complex than this and I think you will find that you are happier when you do not rely on generalizations which are frustrating in their implications, and aggravating in that there is no solution

[QUOTE="Joshy485"]I support game developers if the game is good. otherwise I just buy used.

I am not challenging your right to buy used, but if a game is worth buying used, doesn't that mean it is a good game? I am guessing that you are not populating your library with games you think are crap.

Even though if used games market is harming the industry?? Is there any argument to say its illegal??? For example, if I buy a new game, I already paid its price, so that means its MINE now, I can do whatever I want, I can play it periodically, smash it, lend it, burn it, put it in the closet and never play it. So why do they think they (developers, or anyone for that matter) have the right to tell me what to and/or what not to do with my property??? Besides, if I sell it, im giving it up, I mean, I wont be having it anymore to play it the times I want. So I dont see any "injustice" here either.

The argument is not that the used game market is "unjust" or illegal, because it is neither. the problem is that gamestop is the largest videogame retailer around, and the majority of their business is used games. When a game is bought new, the store gets a cut, and developers get a cut. when a game is sold used the store takes all of the profit. lets say that 3,000,000 will people play and love RE5 but 2,950,000 of those people decide to rent or wait until they can pick it up used. ignoring the logistics of distribution of 50,000 to 3,000,000; we can see in this scenario that the developers will only be paid for 1/60th of the games sold. (these are not researched numbers, they are just used here to illustrate the practice and why it is hurting game makers)

If all used games sales happened in pawn shops (which are not chain retailsers) i doubt this would have the same potential to affect the industry, if only because pawnshops are seedy and little kids are not allowed in.

I am so glad that sgt. slaughter and the iron sheik made the cut! what about some of the old golden age tag team pairs. I remember those as just being the wackiest themes carried out to the greatest extreeems because they had to do up two wrestlers.

My guess is since they specialize in hardware, at least some of their games are likely OEM versions. (meaning they will likely come bare bones in a sleeve) They'll probably be new, but no frills.

jakarai

360 games don't come OEM as far as I know, maybe you know something I don't?

Never heard of that either.

I have never heard of it either, but he is just GUESSING, so I will guess that because of profits on hardware sales, newegg is selling never before heard of super deluxe editions printed on gold disks. the games are probably delivered by strip-a-gram too, with a clever song, a flirtacious smile, and an original dance! Yeah, newegg can afford it, so why not!

Teachers need credentials, not certificates (slight difference)... and that is a wonderful point, private schools only require that one person on staff be credentialed. that person could be the janitor for all they care. lets hear it for public schools where all the teachers are more qualified and make due with less resources!

I thought hummers were cool in 1998... in the same way that bulldozers are cool, awesome machine, but do you need it to go to the corner store? Hummers have some impressive abilities, but you are more likely to call on different attributes of your car on a day to day basis. Do not buy a hummer or a truck if you intend to keep it shiny and new, that only means that you do not intend to use it for what it is made for.

For most people looking for a vehicle i might on this forum compare it to someone looking for a portable game player and then deciding to get a PS3, a 10"lcd and a car battery.

  1. Videogames are an artistic medium. not all games qualify as art, but many do, and the birth of any artistic medium is long and painful.
  2. Videogames are competetive and call on a specific, but wide array of skills. many personality types simply do not allow for enjoyment of a great percentage of availiable videogame libraries.
  3. Videogame genres are not as ubiquitiously known as say, music, theater, or television. this means that many people who may be inclined to a particular genre may be unaware of its existance.
  4. Enjoying a videogame requires that the player assume a role of the gamer, who suspends disbelief and is mentally prepared to be emmersed in their engagemnt of the game. People also need a skill set to watch movies, but we have all done it from such a young age that we are hardly aware of watching movies being a skill, just like playing a videogame, and i do not mean being good or getting a high score.

for a system i would check out slickdeals.net, there is likely still a dedicated thread towards ps3 and wii system deals, and they will frequently give a heads up on the best deals around for systems and games at both internet and actual store locations.

I got a $25 gift card with my purchase of mario galaxy at toysrus back when it was released. i got back in line and bought a second copy using the gift card and receiving a second gift card. then i returned the second copy and the second gift card and got mario galaxy for $25 total. (not really a scam, i just wanted to apply the gift card to that purchase)

Recently slick deals pointed out a similar deal for RE5 but i missed that one.

I have seen great deals on games and systems there requireing no shenanegans as well. often they bring up deals at sights you wouldn't expect to buy videogames from like dell and newegg. all the best deals make it to the front page but you will have to sift through all the other awesome deals featured.

I have not had experience with newegg mislabeling products, in my experience they are a responsible company that is responsive to their customers. if it is not labeled used, then i would assume it is new. of course you may wish to look closely to see that the word used does not appear on the page. CTRL+F FTW. or just call them tomorrow morning. even if you place your order tonight it will not ship any faster than if you place it tomorrow morning... just if you want to be doubly sure.

I do not think that newegg sells any products used. (of course refurbished means something else entirely than used... sort of:P)

Really only 10% of games purchased are new? Is this something you made up to make a point or is this a real figure. I would say I purchase around 50% each, with popular titles you are only saving at best $10 used. To me this isnt worth it i would much rather splurge for the new title without having to worry about a possible return or missing manual or something along those lines. I just dont fell that 10% can be accurate.Stange13
excuse me, i did not mean to suggest that 10% of all games purchased are new, i meant to say that the used games gamer in the hypothetical model i posed in the OP only purchased 10% of his games new. I have no idea on the figures for what % of all games sales are new unit sales. i do know that greater than 50% of gamestops's business is used games (this is of course only gamestop, and cannot be extrapolated to include other retailers like Target and Walmart).
